So, Swidnicki Rally ended with one more victory for Kajetan Kajetanowicz. But this time the champion had to work harder for his success. The rising star from Subaru, Wojciech Chuchala finished just 1.5 second behind him. Third was Tomasz Kuchar, who, despite knowing the stages by heart, totally disappointed his fans.

It was a crazy event. First time in my life did I see so much snow in April! Without much sun, but with much mud and changing weather it wasn't easy to take photos. But I did my best and would like to invite you to my photo gallery:

Looks like we could have pretty exciting 2013 rally season in Poland. Now two drivers were fighting for the win, in next rounds maybe somebody else would also try to fight for 1st place, plus we can expect many nice fights for other positions. Looking forward for Rajd Wisly in second part of May.

Yes, if nothing unpredictable happens then it should be another victory for Kajto. Chuchala is the only driver, who can keep up Kajto's pace after 4 stages. He's currently 15 seconds behind the champion. Kuchar and Oleksowicz disappoint again. They already lose 1 minute.

His onboard you've got in post above yours.
Wisla was his first rally this season, in 2012 he drove few rallies with Fiesta R2, in previous years some rallies with same Civic VTi.
No doubt he is fast, but mostly in his old Civic, in Fiesta he was not that spectacular, also crashing a lot.
Also Wisla was his home rally, so he knew the stages pretty decently...

12th July 2013, 14:31
I spent the last weekend on the stages of Karkonoski Rally, the 3rd round of Polish championship. It was a good event, with interesting stages in the mountains and beautiful weather. From the "sporting" point of view the rally was dominated by a driver called "Kajto" and he hasn't done it for the first time :) I read somewhere that this madman won all but one stage, but I didn't verify if it is true. I would consider that highly possible though :)

http://foto.rallyonline.pl/GALERIA/2013/07/karkonoski/jarekz/karko2013_jzagorny_33.jpg

Second on the finish line was the young and talented Wojciech Chuchala and third Tomasz Kuchar, who disappointed many viewers again. But the biggest disappointment was Maciej Oleksowicz, who despite his great experience from ERC and WRC, wasn't even close to the top three. Nice surprise of the rally was Lukasz Habaj, who at the wheel of his Mitsubishi was faster than all S2000 drivers. It's a shame, that he didn't manage to keep his position until the finish line.

Bryan Bouffier drove Peugeot 208 R2 only, but he drove it like a maniac and managed to win 2WD category, beating all Citroens DS3 R3T, Renault Clio R3 and even Suzuki Swift S1600.

Can we hope international career for Kajto and Chuchala ? They are really fast ...

Jarek Z
13th July 2013, 19:58
I think that Kajto is good enough to have a successful career in European Championship, similar to Krzysztof Holowczyc in the nineties. Unfortunately everything depends on money. And most money from Lotos is wasted on Michal Kosciuszko, who drives in WRC for years without success. Unfortunately these are business decisions and we can't do anything about it. Chuchala is good, but not good enough for an international career.

Here is the second part of my photo gallery, this time with more scenery around the stages:

Very nice and funny video Jarek, I like it !!! Above all it very important, that we still have in Europe two drivers (Beppo Harrach & Kajto), who can resist with R4 cars against much more competitive rally cars like S2000.
Buffier is like Andreucci in Italy-rivals with much faster 2WD cars are always behind them!! A very good commercial for P208 R2, indeed.

What happened to Habaj?

Koltun was driving S2000, car heavily damaged, but he already has discount in M-Sport for bodyshells :)
Grzyb had some problems, went slightly of the road on one stage, some other "moments" on other, generally his knowledge of stages from second day was worse.
Oleksowicz had puncture, and drove almost half of 30km stage on the rim.
Kuchar had old engine (full of kms) as his main blow during testing.
Bebenek was really fast - first time this season.
Chuchala damaged the car, it's wreck now. They have training gpN car, they will rebuild it for gpR for upcoming gravel rallies.

Of course Koltun says, that it was a great bad luck and not his mistake:

It was a fast 6-type corner. We jumped, the car went out of the road and we rolled. A great bad luck!

Koltun has left the hospital, but his co-driver will remain there until the end of this week.

If it's same car as one or two years back than it's basically an Evo X in smaller bodyshell (if I remember right).

Jarek Z

Yes, as far as I know Dytko's proto car is based on Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X. Suspension, transmission system and engine come from that car. Dytko wants such cars to compete in the "Open" class in Polish championship next year. I am personally not sure if it makes sense. If you want to buy it, the cost is 49000 €. Are you interested? ;)

I must say that I dont like this Proto cars from Dytko. It has no chance to use abroad. He was happy to sell his car to Spanish championship, I have seen that car on Canarias last year. I think it is good for media hype, but thats all. I will rather see the drivers in internationally homologated cars, which can start on most of events regurarly.

Kajetanowicz was not present so Habaj (evo9 R4) won in front of Kuchar (207), Chuchala (Impreza R4), Rzeznik (207), Gryc (207).
Oleksowicz was really fast but broke the suspension on Saturday morning. Aigner with Dytko 208 Proto drove only one day, as then he has dome duties for Yokohama. When it was dry he was setting some decent times (as for standard evo10 engine, standard fuel, not top dampers, etc.), when it was wet and muddy he said it was pretty difficult to drive as car was too stiff, etc. and they didn't have enough time before rally to do proper testing.

Let me comment on the event that was held in Poland a few weeks ago - the Rally Masters rally sprint. You can see some photos here:
http://www.rajdy.hoga.pl/galeria/galeria.asp?gid=3427

First of all, rally sprints are not popular in Poland at all, so I'm very happy that something like that was organized here. The event was held on the former stages of Rally Poland that were used in the nineties. The special moment of the event was an attempt to set the new record of the famous Sobotka - Sulistrowiczki stage. The original record was set in the nineties by the legendary Partick Snijers and his Ford Escort in Bastos livery. In order to bring back the memories of the old champions G4 prepared replicas of some top cars from the history:
the Bastos Ford Escort of Patrick Snijers
the Boxy's Ford Sierra of Robert Droogmans
Mercedes-Benz of Peter Rumpfkeil:
http://i.hoga.pl/rajdy/galeria/2013/13_ ... rny/33.jpg (http://i.hoga.pl/rajdy/galeria/2013/13_masters_zagorny/33.jpg)
and the European Championship winnner - Enrico Bertone's Toyota Celica Turbo 4WD:
http://i.hoga.pl/rajdy/galeria/2013/13_ ... rny/32.jpg (http://i.hoga.pl/rajdy/galeria/2013/13_masters_zagorny/32.jpg)

Snijers' time turned out to be too good to beat. Grzegorz Grzyb and his Skoda Fabia S2000 were 5 seconds slower.

Results of the rally sprint:
1. Grzegorz Grzyb, Skoda Fabia S2000
2. Tomasz Kuchar, Peugeot 207 S2000
3. Jasper van den Heuvel, Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X

Polish champion from 2003 is going to drive Skoda Fabia S2000 and says that his budget for the season is 99% confirmed. I don't remember how many times he announced his retirement from rallying. There are some rumors about R5, but I don't know if they are true.

But rumors about Fiesta R5 seem to be true in Oleksowicz's case. He will change his Fiesta to R5 and say goodbye to the S2000 version, but will it improve his results? I doubt it.

Can somebody make a short summary of the rally? Why were the last two stages canceled?

Jarek Z
9th March 2014, 00:06
I don't think that anybody was following this rally.

But it doesn't matter, because the most exciting story of this event is the story of the great, one and only Slawomir Ogryzek. He was planning to drive this rally with his newly built Peugeot 208 R2. But he couldn't do it, because he crashed the car during the pre-event test session! He decided to switch to his old Citroen C2 R2. Unfortunately he crashed it already on the first day of the rally! He managed to repair it for day 2 only to crash it once again on just the second stage! What a talent! :D

I think that nobody was interested in an unknown rally, in an unknown location, without any promotion and with 20 crews on the start list. I was watching sports news on TV and nobody even mentioned this event in the evening news.

And as far as old foxes are concerned, you forgot about Czopik.

It was very nice rally, only pity that so few crews took part in it. But it's not because of something was wrong with this event, but it's because of federation/rules, etc. New, very, very challenging and interesting stages, nice service area, many drivers fighting for top spots. Of course there were some minuses - like cancelled last two stages, rally held friday/saturday, not needed remote service zones where many teams cheated but officials didn't react, etc.

I finally have some time to write a few words about Swidnicki Rally. I'm very happy to say that it was a very good event. Demanding stages, good entry list, nice weather and lots of spectators are what made this rally exciting. From the sporting point of view, Wojciech Chuchala proved that he is one of the 3 fastest drivers in Poland now. He made big progress again. Only his second rally at the wheel of Ford Fiesta R5 and already an overall win! Congratulations!

http://foto.rallyonline.pl/GALERIA/2014/04/swidnicki/jzagorny/swidnicki2014_jzagorny_02.jpg

His experienced competitor Grzegorz Grzyb was trying very hard, but wasn't able to catch Chuchala. Could it be that his Skoda Fabia S2000 was simply too slow?

http://foto.rallyonline.pl/GALERIA/2014/04/swidnicki/jzagorny/swidnicki2014_jzagorny_07.jpg

Final results of Swidnicki Rally:
1. Wojciech Chuchała, Sebastian Rozwadowski ( Ford Fiesta R5) - 23.46,9
2. Grzegorz Grzyb, Daniel Siatkowski (Skoda Fabia S2000) - + 36,2
3. Tomasz Kuchar, Daniel Dymurski (Peugeot 207 S2000) +1.11,1
4. Maciej Rzeźnik, Przemysław Mazur (Ford Fiesta R5) +2.09,7
5. Maciej Oleksowicz, Michał Kuśnierz (Ford Fiesta R5) +2.59,7
6. Tomasz Kasperczyk, Damian Syty (Ford Fiesta R5) +3.57,7
7. Łukasz Habaj, Piotr Woś Mitsubishi Lancer EVO IX R4 +5:13.5
8. Sebastian Frycz, Tomasz Spurek Subaru Impreza STi +5:14.4

Yes, you are right. He used to be slow and always crashing driver with a big budget. People were laughing at him and he was constantly humiliating himself. But a few years ago he started making progress. Somehow he has managed to improve his speed and consistency. And now I can actually say that he isn't that bad. Of course he is good at national level only and he can win rallies only when faster drivers (like Grzyb, Chuchala or Habaj) crash, but still the progress that he has made in recent years is impressive.

Bouffier won the biggest number of stages but retired during first day and returned only with superally. 2. Brzezinski (Fiesta R5) +11,3
3. Grzyb (Fiesta R5) +12,8
4. Kuchar (Fiesta R5) +45,7
5. Gabrys (Fiesta R5) +5:48,5
6. Gagacki (Evo IX) +6:22,6
7. Polonski (208 R2) +6:49,3
8. Chmielewski (DS3 R3T) +6:53,3
9. Stec (Fiesta Proto) +7:10,0
10. Bouffier (Fiesta Proto) +7:24,9

Bouffier won the biggest number of stages but retired during first day and returned only with superally. Habaj is now leading the championship but he will most likely skip more points than Bouffier and Gryzb. Everything is opened for all of them. Kasperczyk crashed. Fabtastic result for Brzezniski who is a new name for me. Can some of our Polish firends tell me who he is?

Jakub Brzezniski is an ex-Poland Cup driver (with a C2R2). Rajd Dolnoslaski is his second rally with his Fiesta R5 and his second top 5 with a 4RM !

Jakub Brzezinski is relatively new in Polish rallying. He is 29 years old and he works as an instructor in Tomasz Kuchar's driving school. In 2014 he was competing in Citroen C2 R2 in the Polish Cup and was visibly quicker than anybody else. He didn't drive all rallies, but still finished the season in the third position. This year it is his first or second season in Polish championship. He drives Ford Fiesta R5, his results are great and his talent is undeniable.

Jakub Brzezinski had a huge crash in Rajd Arlamow. It seems that the crew is fortunately ok.
