Anyone know how this is going to figure into the points? It's in October, after Chicagoland. I heard it would be separate from the championship, but next year may be different. I've never even seen the race, which I guess was a CART event.

Great event. It's non championship this year.

You mean like not points race? Why not? If all the cars are there why not let it be a points race?

Something to do with the timing of the race and the IRL's want for the championship to be decided in the US, where it can maximise it's fans. Because the Surfers event is going to be packed regardless - it's party central.

I also believe it is because Chicagoland has a contract to stage the last race. For this year at least anyway.

Nick, The venue in Surfers is first class. Great fan attendance every day even for unpacking cargo. The fans are somewhat more into the party than the racing at times. The V8's command a large following in Oz which adds greatly to the crowd's size. Imagine a beach community somewhat like Miami with tall condo buildings, palm trees, bikinis, fantastic weather, etc.. no wonder it is call Paradise.

Why not let it be the first race of 2009. Award points for the coming season. Give the race a little more credibillity than just turn up and race.....Think this year will be the best in years. YEs will miss the Turbo's, but 26 cars is good to see and hear.

IMO its at a good time of the year. A week or two after Bathurst...

You're missing out! Drivers and fans alike love the event. Hopefully all competitors show up and the race is still broadcast over there in the states, despite the fact it's a non-championship event.

As I understand it, the Chicago race is contractually supposed to be the last race of the year, but it does seem odd that they will have all the cars there but no points. Maybe they can work it out. Anyway, never having been it is supposed to be one of the better events of the year.
