http://money.cnn.com/2008/01/04/autos/corvette_not_leaving/index.htm?postversion=2008010712

The EPA lists the current car at 19mpg which is not a great deal of distance for the money you'll be spending on petrol. Mind you, if you're buying a brand new Corvette in the first place, money and conspicuous consumption isn't a worry anyway.

I can't say how such a car would feel since 620bhp is a wee bit more than the cars I drive, but I would tend to think it would be quite unwieldy in traffic like every Ferrari.

furthermore it's quite ugly and smells of poo.

Unless I'm going to get some money from GM,(which hasn't happened yet, what's the hold up there Mr Motors) I can't but strongly advise against bying any product that marketed through our forum in this way.

Guerilla marketing is so last year.

It would be OK until it comes time to sell it, then you will lose all your money. I would rather buy a Ferrari, or a Porsche, at least at trade time you will get a decent price. Half the parts on the Corvette are probably made by Daewoo in Korea anyway.

If you can live with the sub standard interior, it is one of the best performance cars available in the near future. Corvette has got this baby right  and for a change it corners like a &^%$%^ :) Well done to the Yanks, they have something to challenge the Europeans

It's not. KarenCaren is merely some marketing bot or person who is sad enough to post stuff which is obviously guerilla advertising a Janneppi said.

Guerilla or not: Buy an M6 instead; handles way better, even though the Corvette have become better in the last years.

Yes, buy an M6. Only $AU274000 on the road cost. Go see your local dealer today. :D

Guerilla or not: Buy an M6 instead; handles way better, even though the Corvette have become better in the last years.

But keep in mind that the production Corvette is priced well below the M6 price levels. GM is stepping up output and no doubt handling to compete with the higher end cars. $20-25,000 could do a lot for a Z06 Corvette in terms of overall performance.

Very few people push the limits of even lesser handling cars in a street environment, but often do take advantage of the acceleration. Even assuming that BMW ups power on the M6 for 2009, a 120 HP margin isn't small by any stretch of the imagination.

The Corvette is no looker but the M6 is hideous.

I think what we've learned here is this: if you're going to spam message boards, at least make sure your product isn't a pile of crap.

My cousin bought one of these.... sold it after 5 months, his worst buy ever. Had never ending electrical problems, the rear axle snapped going over a speed bump, trim falling off it like confetti. Really uncomfortable seats, the brakes failed on 3 occasions and the drivers air-bag activated for no reason.

Do not buy this hunk of scrap... GM need to get their house in order and review their advertising methods too.

Guerilla advertising has its drawbacks ;)

If I was living in the USA and I wanted a performance car I'd buy a car built in Australia. The Pontiac G8 (read Holden Commodore) is the most powerful car on the market for under $30,000. Plus I know that it's been built to better quality control, emissions and impact standards than anything in the USA because the ADR is tougher.

I don't know anything about KarenCaren, but others here have countered her marketing with other bits of inaccuracies: for resale value, the Chevrolet Corvette had the best resale value of any U.S. made car in 2006. My former company made parts for the GMX245 (Corvette) and GMX215 (Caddy XLR) and I've seen them built in Bowling Green. The car really doesn't have more quality issues than other cars in the upper performance category. In PP100, measured by JD Power, it stood as average compared to other performance cars, except for Porsche (making hella good cars now). And from the data I've seen, the standard Vette is actually cheaper to own ($/per mile of ownership) than the Porsches, Vipers and others that it competes against.

I'm not, and have never been a big Corvette fan. But for the money, the new series of Vettes is hard to beat. To get something comparable, you'd easily spend twice as much. I don't know about the ZR1, but the standard C6 and the Z06 are great values for the money.

Oh yeah... shame on you KarenCaren.

My friend, a doctor is planning to buy ZR1. I think it suits his style. Last summer he rented a Ferrari and a call girl and drove to Hanko for a weekend. Last winter he rented a white horse and rode the beachline in thailand.

Mid-life crisis, perchance?

I worked with someone who just shy of his 40th birthday ditched his wife for a 19 year old airhead and sold his sensible family estate for a sports convertible. He looked a right idiot, more so when the relationship ended.

Yep.

I can't help but thinking that particular episode of Friends where Ross bought a red convertible sports car and one fat, baldie oldie passed by and said to him; "How cool are we?". :)

We had a C5 as a test car. We beat the piss out of that thing for years and it never complained.

IMO in "bang-for-your-buck" the current C6 Corvette is one of the best buys out there.

This is why I want to buy it. :)

here the article:

For Corvette enthusiasts, it's like counting super delegates. But hey, at least the waiting is over. The supercharged 6.2-liter V8 in the forthcoming Corvette ZR1 produces 638 horsepower. The supercar's top speed will be about 205 mph. This shouldn't disappoint. It's roughly 20 ponies more than early estimates about the powertrain from GM's own engineering wizards. The car delivers a whopping 604 pound/feet of torque.
The hand-built engine uses a Roots-type supercharger with four-lobe rotors. A liquid-to-air intercooler is integrated into the supercharger's housing. So lose your calculators: The motor makes 103 hp per liter of displacement, or 1.7 hp per cubic inch.
See video after the jump.
Don't expect to pick one up for the expected sticker price of $65,000. Some estimates will have the limited-run car going for as much as $150,000. It's a collector's car, and GM is positioning it as such.

If I had the money to buy a Corvette I WOULDN'T !!!
There are too many nice sports cars available which offer better value for the money.
A Corvette is a over-grown rough-riding kidney-busting piece of bulky machinery ...
the Corvette is NOT a true sports car by any stretch of the imagination ! http://www.motorsportforum.com/forums/images/icons/tongue-anim.gif

I much prefer the BMW Z4 Roadster 3.0i http://www.motorsportforum.com/forums/images/icons/tongue-anim.gif

at $36,400 base price (US), it is a bargain compared to the Corvette ! http://www.motorsportforum.com/forums/images/icons/tongue-anim.gif

The base 3.0i has around 215 horsepower and weighs over 3000 pounds. It's no match for a WRX (that costs a lot less), much less a Corvette. But it's a nice looking cruiser... and course, it comes with a "free" BMW badge. If you want a car that appears to me to be THE most popular set of wheels among female executive assistants in SoCal, that would be the one.

The M version is a hot car that handles really well. But it costs about the same as a Corvette, has 100 +/- less horsepower and weighs about the same. But on the upside, ya do still get that "free" BMW badge... plus an "M" emblem to boot! :D

638 bhp, that's impressive. Although not so much when you consider that Subaru and Mitsubishi get over 300 from a 2 litre engine but it takes 6.2 in the 'vette.

Personally I don't like the look and have been led to believe that the car is only as good as stuff that Europe and Japan were making nearly 20 years ago. Plus if I had £100,000 I'd probably end up with 3 or 4 cars that I'd enjoy much more e.g Alfa Romeo Brera (just to look at), a decent Mk 1 Mexico and a Monaro or something like that.

2 litre EvoX which apparently kicks out 354bhp. Also refering more to the older Subarus which were 2.0l, didn't even realised that they'd increased the capacity.

No, I wouldn't have one..

GM will be letting down the vette masses with forced induction.

Thya should've installed a 454, like the stingray of the 60's

Forced induction was probably easier, cheaper, more GM ish :p
