AMBROSE QUALIFIES FOURTH FOR MEXICO CITY

Marcos Ambrose will start the Corona Mexico 200 from fourth position after qualifying well at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City today.

Ambrose has focused his attentions on having a stable car for long runs during tomorrow’s race, but still was able to achieve a top five qualifying time in the #59 Kingsford Hickory Ford Fusion.

Fourth is Ambrose’s NASCAR career best qualifying performance on a road course, eclipsing the Australian’s previous best of fifth in Montreal last season.

Ambrose is confident that he has a strong package for the race and is sighting race strategy as a crucial element to success in tomorrow’s 80-lap race around the twisty Mexico City circuit.

Ford drivers occupy four of the top five positions, with teenager Colin Braun putting his Ford Fusion on pole from Scott Pruett, followed by the Fords of Carl Edwards, Ambrose and Boris Said.

Marcos Ambrose - #59 Kingsford Hickory Ford Fusion

“We’re pretty happy,” said Ambrose.

“It’s nice to be in the top third for this race.

“We feel like we have a good car on the longer run. I was hoping for a top-five qualifying run there and I’m pretty pleased with it.

“I think we will be a lot of long runs tomorrow because the race will settle down and everyone is just trying to look out for their gear. There will be a cluster of cautions, that’s historically how this race is run.”

“It’s a nice gain for us. I feel like we’ve really improved our road course program. We were faster here with this car with a 100 less horsepower than what we had last year. We’ve made huge gains on the car and we’re really pleased with it.”

this was a very poor race, Attendence was very poor on TV. I sure hope this was the last time they are coming to Mexico, because it looks to have lost its appeal to the Mexicans.

I don't know why the drivers become pure idiots with under 30 to go. they basically dive bomb to take people out to try and gain spots only to hinder themselves.

well done by Kyle, the only guy to really race clean, along with Edwards and Bowyer

Well it wasn't a great race, but I thought the crowd was pretty good. But there were a few too many guys in the field that just didn't know what they were doing. Kertus Davis, for example, he hit everything on the track on Friday. We were lucky to see him out early.

Apr. 20 NASCAR Nationwide Series:Post race quotes from 2nd Place finisher, #59 driver, Marcos Ambrose:We’re really pleased. I feel like we had been battling all day. We had an overheating motor there at the end. We had to start at the back with a clutch problem and that was still there in the race and we had to watch that. Then we had to come from the back again because we miscalculated the fuel and we had an ignition stall. Then we had a penalty on pit lane and had to come from the back again. It had just been a day of fighting. I really want to first apologize to Boris on one of those restarts. I got into him and spun him out and ended his day. I just want to answer those questions now before they come up. I feel bad for him but our day has been fantastic and I’m really proud of my Kingsford guys. We fought all day and never gave up. I think if we had another two laps we would have had something for Kyle because he was really starting to go off. I’m proud of my finish. This is my best finish since I’ve been in NASCAR. I’ve got to be pleased.” I KNOW YOU APOLOGIZED BUT BORIS SEEMED PRETTY INTENT ON GETTING REVENGE SOME DAY AND HE DID TALK TO YOUR CREW CHIEF. “There’s no point in getting in the crew chief’s face because he’s not driving the car. I’m going to ring him on Monday and hopefully sleep will help him just think through things a little bit more. I value Boris’ friendship and he is a fantastic racer. I didn’t mean to do it. I don’t know what happened, to be honest with you. I had pretty square contact and all of a sudden, he’s up speed and off to the left. I caught his rear bumper bar in mine. I don’t know what happened, it wasn’t intentional. Racing happens. Look at the deal last year with Robby Gordon. Bad stuff happens out there and it’s unfortunate. I’ll apologize to him to his face. I’ll apologize to him today in front of the media. I can’t take it back. I wish I didn’t do it. I don’t know how it happened and that’s all I can really say. If he wants to come talk to me about it, I’d like to sit down and just find some common ground. It’s just unfortunate that that stuff happens but that’s what racing is all about. That’s what fans turn out for.” (PR-Ford Racing - Photo NASCAR Media/Getty Images) Read more

Said lost control, checked up with Ambrose and Said now can't wait to get revenge!

that vid is sort of inconclusive, i dodn't know if Ambrose had a in-car camera, but if he did , there would have been some great shots coming out iof it, with all the passing he had to do, i think he doubled the passing record that Monty did last year! or was that Marcos's own record that he smashed! Ambrose also passed plenty last year?

the trouble is that Ambrose will prob, have a camera in his car for Dega , & nearly everytime he has a camera he does not get a chance to talk on the track in cautions or the bloody audio doesn't work?

was looking for the pics on the home page & they have bugger all of the race?

go aussie go !!!!!!!

I like Boris.

But I am too lazy to look this up ---- he is hailed as a major road racer, but I have never seen or heard of him winning anything.

Usually when commentators mention someone who is really good they say things like two-time Indy winner, or three-time Daytona runner-up, or something.

I don't recall anyone ever saying that about Mr Said. We just hear, ace road racer etc......

from wikipedia

He won the 1997 and 1998 24 Hours of Daytona and 1998 12 Hours of Sebring in IMSA. He also became the first American to win the 24 Hours Nürburgring in 2005 driving a BMW Motorsport-entered BMW M3 GTR with co-drivers Pedro Lamy, Duncan Huisman and Andy Priaulx

I heard about Boris Said and Ron Fellows in the 90s because they were top drivers in Trans-Am but never won the championship.

A lot of people say Ambrose should have backed off. What are they thinking? This is the old car, the car behind you goes under your rear, lifts your wheels and your gone.
Boris didn't have the car and he was over driving it. enough said about Said Head. But i still like him, it could be a long time for him to get that hair cut if he doesn't win tho?
