The Thursday crowd was on par with last year -- pretty decent, 20k+. Track went hot at 3:00 p.m. with ALMS practice and two drifting competitions.
Walking through the Champ Car paddock was like an open casket ceremony to be honest. Same goes with the hospitality compound. Patron Tequila and Porsche look first class. KV Racing Technology also has a good spread. Everything goes down hill from there.
Anyone that thinks this unification was much of a benefit to existing CC teams hasn't spoken to those involved. "St. Pete's was ok but considering the quality of the equipment we're running, we're not very optimistic at the moment." Too many memories of Texas Motor Speedway and horrific crashes witnessed on the TV.
Time may well heal the wounds but sponsorship is what's going to keep these teams on the grid. Let's hope the package look better as the season progresses. For the final CC event, today (Thursday) was not a good gage.
