Welcome to the:
CMR2 BRC - Pirelli International Rally 18-19 April

This is the first real rally of the 2008 CMR2 BRC season, and it will be no easy start as we head straight for the Carlisle based Pirelli International Rally, which runs in the giant (and car breaking) Kielder Forest complex.

Rally info:

In-game rally: Greece (Expert mode)
Shakedown: SS3
Deadline: Thuesday 22nd at 11.59 pm (no extensions will be given)
Submit times to: jokumlarsen@gmail.com or by PM to me (JTLarsen)

This is how the timecard should look:

There is a few new features in the BRC this year:

Shakedown
All rounds will now also include a shakedown, as most BRC events are held on different surfaces than the current World Championship events. The shakedown will not be obligatory but should give the competitors a chance to tweak their cars just right for the conditions at hand.

Rookie Of The Year
The second new feature of 2008 is the Rookie Of The Year Award, this will give the newcomers to both the sport and the championship something to fight for. The winner will be awarded with a medal equal to that of the winner of the full championship (see official homepage).

In order to compete for the award you must:

Have scored no CMR2WC points in '07[/*:m:27fyegze]
Have had no CMR2BRC wins in '07[/*:m:27fyegze]
Compete in at least 3 CMR2BRC events in '08[/*:m:27fyegze]Do remember to visit the official homepage of the championship at:

Have been at it fairly hard in the Lancer since Argentina-hope for a good showing here.

Purely doing this as an exercise to conquer my dislike of the Lancer..

I'll try to put together an entry list from the BRC Entry thread

Unless someone beats me to it :D

ok, BRC is now open! The Toyots has had a few problems, but we are up to the task... More Red Bull please!!!

tannat
11th April 2008, 12:05
1 22 80
1 22 15
1 21 85

The preceding times were set at suspension -2 (we've been testing with 0 and -2 settings). Just for kicks, we did our final runs at -5, not expecting anything...

1 20 60 (new PB)
1 20 95

Quite a bumpy stage, perhaps the -5 absorbs them better.

Also had a go at SS9- a very difficult stage. After two runs had dropped my PB 1 second with the -5 setting

As long as we aren't prone to roll we'll be okay. A bit more testing and we are off for the start..

Reporter: A quick word, Tannat? Things sorted out with the Lancer?

Tannat: Yes, finally we are happy. This car is big, and doesn't work as our previous drives. It took a big shift in thinking, but after much work awe are pleased to say our pace is as faster or faster than previous drives in our career.

Reporter: That's great news. How are your chances on this one?

Tannat: We hope for a podium finish. If we drive wisely this is acheivable unless the competetin is better, and this is very possible. The BRC is well-subscribed this year.

Reporter: And a jet is waiting on you to take you directly to Jordan?

Tannat: Yes- we will not be around for post rally activities as there is still some testing to do for the Jordan WRC. We knew our chedule would be busy with commitments to both series.

Reporter: Thanks Tannat, and good luck on the rally..

The Two Basses (Ford) Team Europe are very proud to announce that they will be debuting an exciting new car at the first round of the BRC.

Namely the: Skoda Fabia2000!

The development of this new car has been going on since a few weeks before the Ford Focus WRC07 was released, when Two Basses head engineer NOR was contacted by the Skoda factories for possible involvement of the final development of the Fabia2000.

The progress of the car has gone really fast since the CMR2 Rally Magazine revealed a picture of the car a few weeks ago, and the Skoda factories has been so satisfied with the cooperation with NOR that the Two Basses Team Europe has been chosen to debut the car into rallying for further development.

This means that both NOR and JTLarsen will be driving the new Fabia2000 at the Pirelli International Rally next weekend.

Keep an eye on the CMR2 Rally Magazine as it will feature the full story on the car in a coming issue.

Here is a couple of fresh pictures from a test conducted by the team near the Kielder forestcomplex.

Reporter: So Martin first real test in the new focus how o you feel?

M.F: yeah it great the steering fells a little slow for us and gives a bit too much understeer but well get this fixed for the weekend.

reporter: youve been driving a FAbia 06 in the WRC how does this compare?

M.F: personally speaking it much better quicker and more responsive but well see if the FIA will give us dispensation to abandon our Skoda in favour of the Focus for the next round in Jordan.

Reporter: Any predictions on where youll finish the Pirelli?

M.F well hopefully looking at the other team we hope to finish top six at best but hey this is rallying so the unpredictable always happens when you least expect it to.

Reporter: "So Tannat, how was your outing in the WRC "limousine" ?

Tannat: "Ha ha! You have been following me! This limousine suffers very little in comparison to the rest of the field. The stages with tight transitions cause it trouble, but aside from that the rest can be solved with the proper setup."

Reporter: "A good rally for you then?"

Tannat: "Yes, we are pleased. Personal bests or close to personal bests on almost every stage. We were too cautious on SS1, made a mistake or two on SS4, and slapped a tree on SS10, but aside from that a very satisfying drive."

Reporter: "One final question-I know you are rushing to the airport for Jordan. Any thoughts of the Lancer on tarmac?"

Tannat: "This is the big question, isn't it? Ask me again after Jordan. Ciao.."

Reporter: "Very good. Thanks, Tannat"

pettersolberg29
18th April 2008, 17:59
Can't compare to tannat's interview, so I'll just say I've finished the rally, and unfortunately the Kielder Forest stages took no prisoner of me, but bashed my Skoda about so that I couldn't fix everything in time for the next stages!

I set PBs on every stage as this was the first time I'd done any stages in Greece except SS3 in Shakedown. I feel SS8 and 10 went very well, but SS2 was a nightmare.

I just hope to be top 10, maybe top 8 if I'm lucky, really lucky.

JT you have mail.
Finally finished the Rally:
It was a fast rally, setting some fast PB's along the way! We drifted into the trees a couple of times and lost a bit of time. Stage 6 proved the worst for us when the driver(me) was distracted by a nice English girl in the crowd and ploughed headon into a big tree! Damage resulted in a badly damaged gearbox and panel damage. Stage 7, well that was a disaster going off road then getting lost in the undergrowth, lost a heap of time. Stage 10, we were going really well for most of the stage until I got a bit crossed up before the hairpin and put the Corolla onto 2 wheels and gently rolled at the hairpin. Lucky we didn't go into the gully! Still I got a PB for the effort!
Hopefully we were fast enough for some points. Now where is Pawprint?

Ramore Rally Team Report (quotes from the driver):

Before SS1: It is the first time we drive Ford competitively, but unfortunately we didn't have time to do any tests of the car and we have to figure out the setting during the first two stages.
After SS2: Completely wrong settings, a lot of understeer. I think the Subaru suits my driving style better. We will see if we can get a good feeling with the focus.
After SS4: We lost a couple of seconds after a spin in SS3. No confidence at all. At least the car settings are ok now.
After SS6: No major mistakes, but very slow. I should have practiced a bit before the rally.
After SS8: Huge spin in SS7. It took me about 10-15 sec. to turn the car in the right direction.
After SS10: I kind of lost my concentration after the mistake in SS7. Again a spin in ss9. My times are not good at all.
After SS11: This rally was terrible for me. New car, no testing, only 3 rallies so far this year. I have to find time to practice more, because I feel like losing the speed and the confidence.

Commentator: Ramore had 5 podium finishes in 5 BRC rallies last year, and as a result won the Championship! This year it seems that the tables has turned as the reigning champion is off to a bad start, and several BRC rookies are leaving their mark on the championship already!

Commentator: Ramore, the Jim Clark International is only one month away, and will also be held on asphalt, any predictions?

The final results will be online tomorrow!

Ramore: My favorite surface is asphalt, so I expect to do better and fight at least for a podium place. We have already arranged two day test with Ford and after that we will decide whether to continue the BRC with Ford or drive the Subaru that we are using in the WRC or may be get back the Toyota. But one thing I know for sure - the competition this season is fierce. This means that we have to be prepared well and give 110% on every stage. We have learned our lesson from this event, so we are ready to fight back. See you in Kelso.

you guys ok? Still no word through...

Afraid it's over...

we hit an advertising banner for 'Waking The Dead' on the outside of the final turn in ss4 and damaged the rear suspension. On the road section it fell to bits, and the police pulled us over, and had a look, and kept us there. We tried to make repairs enough to get back to service, but they were having none of it.

It wasn't our fault. We could have driven the car back to service and continued with the rally, but they wouldn't let us.

I did manage to complete the rally - not sure what time zone the deadline is specified for, but for me it's 10.14 pm, so still well ahead of 11.59pm... I'm sending a PM with my times now :)

By the way, my shakedown times:
1.27,24 (bad start of the stage)
1.27,28 (still not right)
1.27,92 (I should have known by now the hairpins are there)
1.24,04 (finally a clean run)

Um..crap. Haven't found a spare half an hour to do the rally. My fault, not exactly good enough to be honest, very sorry. I'll be back for Round 2 trust.

As I wrote last night I managed to do the rally just before the deadline. I didn't have time for testing in between Rally Argentina and the Pirelli International so I just copied my setup that worked on the gravel of Argentina.

The handling of the car wasn't too bad on these stages, but my lack of training showed. Although I managed not to go "over the edge" completely I lost precious a few times off the road trying to find some grip. My computer also had some problems with the evening stages, a combination of setting sun and lots of trees reducing the frame rate... and that's at the lowest detail level :( But no major disasters with trees or cliffs, so I'm not too unhappy with my effort.

The next rounds are on tarmac, a surface I haven't come to grips with, so I'm not expecting any results but if my schedule permits I'll use it for some on-event practice with a view to the asphalt rounds of the CMR2WC later in the season.

Steve:

I've got to know what is your technique on SS1.

Keep it on the light colored gravel in ths strict middle of the rooad and stay clean, or cut like a madman on this stage?

I know I can do it faster, but I've yet to provide the goods.

Congrats to winner and thanks to Tannat for great battle.
The Steve's time on SS1 should be a mistake. I have never seen anybody to get under 2:55 in Czech Championship (for many years). And the total time is not corresponding to sum of all these SS.

On ss1, just need to keep it very clean and be fast.
I had a lot of practice before the rally and a lot of trial and error in setting up the car

This must sound like we're all ganging up on Steve, but I also wonder how he got 1:16 on the SSS. I'm not saying you didn't, but that is hellishly quick! Well done!

As for me, 5th is a great result, although being less than ONE second off 4th is a bit gutting...I'll get you next time Ramore!

I cut alot and the engine revs drop a bit.

Perhaps I should keep it on the straight and narrow.

i see there is a complain about my times on ss1 and sss.

i agree that these times were very fast, but i had done hours of practice and trying different setups before the rally. with ss1 and sss being 2 of my favourite stages on the game i practiced these more.

i'm only here to have fun and would not dream of spoiling the game for anyone else, so i will except any decision by the jury to keep peace and the true spirit of the game

Man, that's the closest times I have ever seen here. Good job. I guess I was a bit luckier this time. I am ready for the battle in the next round, so be careful :) .

Anyways, I am quite happy with the fourth place after a very difficult event for me. Can't wait for the tarmac events.

congrats on the win Steve

During the whole Pirelli Rally, the garage asigned to jso1985's was empty and noone could explain the reason, 3 days after the Bolivian driver finally gives his word
"While we were on-route to England, problem arose on the customs office in the Miami Intl. Airport, some unnamed U.S Citizen(later identified just as "James K.") had apparently gave the local authorities some nasty and false info about the inside content of my Hoobastank CD's(that white thing was flour dammit :p ), as result we spent a few days on the county jail until everyhting got cleared, but meanwhile without a driver the team decided to send the C4 directly to Jordan instead, hence the total empty garage"

real reason: I think I had the two busiest days of my life on Monday and Tuesday, so I was unable to do the rally, sorry JT! I'll do my best to do the next round

Official announcement:

Upon request Steve0302 has provided this info:

1. He is on a Playstation (no possibility for using the CMR2 Edit cheat)
2. He is not using any cheats what so ever.
3. He do not own a digital camera, so therefore cannot provide a screenshot of proof.

The timecard had an error as it was 20 seconds short, this has been disregarded as a mistake, as he would not have gained anything had it not been discovered.

I have chosen to trust him so he will keep his first place!

However, this case will be held open for the remaining season, should he be convicted of cheating in this or any other championship, the case will be re-opened and all points lost.

Please understand that this is not to incriminate anyone, but our CMR2 championships is based on trust, and trust only, so we cannot have anybody breaking the honour code amongst us!

Congratulations to Steve0302 on his victory!

Its good that you didnt cheat Steve - adds more competition, so well done on a convincing win!

Hope you weren't too insulted by the complaints - we're all just jealous and bemused by your speed!!

Although I can see that in the next round, you'll win again and all this will be brought up again. Make sure you come second and no-one will suspect you!
