"Sharp was under contract with Rahal Letterman Racing for 2008, but the two entities parted ways after each filed a breach of contract lawsuit against the other "
from wiki

its a shame so many drivers left indycar....right before the merger happened

what happened to scott sharp?
Patron Tequila is Sharp's Sponsor.
Patron wanted out of the IRL
Patron wanted to be in the ALMS.

Do some simple math and...........
......
....

..
.
Voila!!!

Scott Sharps is now racing in the ALMS.

Also some lawsuits are going on and a bunch of lawyers will make some money.

nice spin on the sponsor motives, but WRONG WRONG WRONG.

Scott Sharp wasn't happy with the way RLR was running things including getting rid of key personel such as engineers and crewmembers. And he felt RLR wasn't committed to fielding a strong team in the IRL in 2008 and he was extremely unhappy in the way RLR executed the 2007 campaign.

SCOTT SHARP took his Patron sponsorship to ALMS and NOT the other way around.

Lets see.
Who should I believe?
Robin Miller or the President of Patron?
Robin Miller or Scott Sharp?

Read the Robin Miller articles all you want.
When are people going to realize that 3/4 of RM's inside information he gets from internet message boards?

I'd go with Patron. Why run in a series where the fan demographic doesn't match their target consumer? As soon as they figured out the wine & cheese crowd don't follow the IRL they bolted. Can we blame them? Sweet looking Acura.

Without documented quotes from Patron and Scott Sharp to that effect, you have no credibility when it comes to the motives of sponsors or drivers. Your past posts on here show your blatant anti-IRL bias and I would dare say you would post anything to denigrate the IRL with self produced statements such as "PATRON didn't want to be in the IRL." If that were the case, why would they have sponsored Scott Sharp to begin with ?

And I think this "Wine and cheese, I'm so much better and classier than you." attitude on the part of SOME former CCWS/CART fans is the reason you're ilk are so hated and despised and belong on that board for losers, CCF. No one is any better than anyone else and I dare say the condescending attitude should stop before your noses get rubbed in the fact that your series no longer exists.

Apologies to all the decent fair minded ChampCar fans out there.

Now let's talk about racing .

Chicago,

Anthony may have an anti-IRL bias, but I believe he's right in this case. Some very pro-IRL posters at Trackforum would tell you the same thing. I only know what I've read, but supposedly Patron wanted to take their activation up a notch, but they were rebuffed by some of the brass in the IRL. Unhappy about that they chose to go elsewhere. Sharp's breach of contract suit was an excuse to get out.

Now that doesn't mean they wouldn't want to run an Indy one-off, but because they are going to lose their side of the case against Rahal, they might not be able to this year.

Thanks for the insight into this and believe me I have been trying very hard to be fair minded and open as to what the REAL reasons were for Scott leaving the IRL. I've been going over articles and news sources, everything from Speedtv, newswires, USA Today, Motorsport.com, *****, IndyStar, Wikipedia, CNNSI.com, ESPN.com, ***** and others, and I have not been able to find ANY words that could even be remotely construed as Patron making the decision to leave. Every indication from every article I have read was that Scott was unhappy with the defeatist atmosphere at RLR and it was HIS decision and not Patron's, to part ways with the IRL. If I'm proven to be wrong, I will apologize.

Having said that, I'm extremely skeptical of someone who posts so prominently on CCF offers his opinions as fact and makes it seem as though Patron wanted out, without any documented quotes of fact backing up those assertions.

Scott Sharp is missed. I hope he eventually comes back.
