It would be: Alexandria

the second: Ankara

In my language this capital of Turkey could mean something weird like greedy, self centered or even savagery.

As for the most beautiful name of country I wouldn't pick others. ;)

Or Hong Kong which, in Chinese, means Fragrant City. There you go!!!
Or Yakandandah! (in Victoria) which sounds just great.

My favourite place name belongs to somewhere that's far from being a city - the small Belgian town of Erps-Kwerps.

Belmont. A shizenload of budget cars and poor kept towns can't be wrong, eh? ;)

Exeter ;)

I was rather surprised (not so long ago) to find out that Uttoxeter is not actually anywhere near Exeter. They sounded similar so in my head it seemed logical they'd be near each other :p :

Took me a second to understand that one, being that I'm from Exeter it's always pronounced 'xter' :D

One name I've always liked is Redruth but mainly because the Cornish accent shortens it to R'droof or for real locals just 'droof'. Other names I thinks is quite good are 'Chipping Sodbury', anywhere that is On The WOLD (might have just made that one up) and Moretonhampstead (although mainly because one of my mates mispelt it as 'Morertophampatad' which is far better.

Kaua'i (Hawaiian for The Garden Isle)

One of Hawaii's islands which also has a mountain Mount Wai'ale'ale (Also Hawaiian for "rippling waters").

Of course all this sounds better when pronounced by a lovely Hawaiian lady.... :)

The Canadian Maritimes have some interesting place names, such as Dildo and Ecum Secum.
The USA has places with names such as Intercourse and Truth Or Consequences.

I realise that none of the above are beautiful names. I've always had a soft spot for Isla de Mujeres. (Island of Women, I belive)

And home to Aunty Jack and Norman Gunston... :D
Norman Gunston and Aunty Jack came from Wollongong, not Woolloomooloo. For getting that wrong, I'm sure that Aunty Jack will come through your computer screen and rip your bloody arms off :D

I rather like the name Celesteville for a city, though I wouldn't want to go there for fear of being crushed to death.

The link didn't work ;)

The above names sound similar, I guess they were made from a certain culture, aborigine term or something.

I know from a series of race, a place in Brazil: Curitiba

Here in Pennsylvania, we have a large Amish community in Lancaster County. There we have towns including Virginville, Paradise, Blue Ball, and my all time favorite....Intercourse. I am not kidding about these names. I had a friend write a paper in her college creating writing course called "How to get to Virginville through Intercouse". I think she got an A.
