Where's Marlboro? Not politically correct? You know some money from them is still making it to Roger or he would change his paint schemes.

Marlboro is Phillip Morris, which is now known as the Altria group...

And buy something from Opes Prime you say... not possible as they are in so much doo-doo right now! Huge billion dollar collapse, completely broke, investors lost pretty much everything.

Just because a sponsor supports a team/series doesn't mean im going to buy it. Yes I may become more aware of the brand, and recognise it in a store, but this alone will not sway me to purchase it. But having a brand that you recognise over one that you dont will most likely sway your purchase to the known brand, without even thinking if they sponsor an Indycar.

And if I prefer one brand over one that sponsors an Indycar, im not going to change. Nor will that product becoming a sponsor of, say, Team Australia, convince me to purchase it.

I buy Red Bull because i like the taste, not for the fact that Mark Webber races for them, same can be said for any sponsor in Indycars.

All things being equal, I will always patronize sponsors first - but if a sponsor has an inferior product or service or presents a poor value than I look elsewhere...
That being said

have all gotten some sort of business from me in the past year and many of the other were seriously considered if practical...

I want to get DirecTV badly, but..................

Is there a way to get the service with a DVR *WITHOUT* activating a land line????

I shut off my landline in 2000 and have been using only cellphone sevice ever since. I dont want to incurr the cost to the phone company. If I can pull it off, I'm there!!

I've been thinking about satellite too Barry ... so I called on your question. No phone line needed. For pay per view you can either call or order online. No problem with the DVR.

But I'm thinking Dish is a better deal. Opening a spread sheet now.

Roger doesn't do anything out of his own pocket. ALL money is coming from them, Marlboro, who is Philip Morris, who is Altria, who is Kraft.

Kraft (Kraft Foods Inc.) is the largest packaged food company in the U.S. It is second to Nestlé (http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=Nestl%C3%A9) in terms of world sales. Altria (http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=Altria_Group) (formerly Philip Morris (http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=Philip_Morris)) which is finally getting past its second-hand tobacco smoke litigation, spun off Kraft in 2007. Kraft sells in over 155 countries. International business has most of the U.S. brands but also national favorites exist in individual countries. [1] (http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=Kraft#_note-0)
Some of Kraft's many U.S. brands include: General Foods International, Gevalia, Maxwell House, Sanka, Yuban, Country Time, Crystal Light, Kool-Aid, Tang, Oscar Mayer, Louis Rich, DiGiorno, Jack's, South Beach Diet, Tombstone, Velveeta, Boca veggie burgers, Cheez Whiz, Breakstone's sour cream, Shake ‘n Bake, Cool Whip, Jell-O, Post cereals, Chips Ahoy!, Oreo, Ritz, and Fig Newtons.

Now does anyone else think it would make a little more sense to have, say, a Jell-O car or a Tombstone car, which could be marketed to kids, used in print and TV ads vs. a tobacco car which cannot be used at all? Have heard and read the argument that Hornish went to cabs because he didn't feel like the league did enough to market him. How can they with the car he drove? He is now in a Mobil1 sponsored car and guess what you see at every Mobil1. Sam Hornish. Get a 77 cent cup of coffee, and a die cast for the kids too. Suddenly kids who don't have parents who are race fans at least know who Sam Hornish is. Odd how that works, no? I will do all I can to support sponsors whom I believe in, but one thing I would love to see more, alot more of, is activation of these sponsorships. How about a Justin die-cast in a Happy Meal? Some Dixon or Wheldon gear in Target? Dr. Pepper and 7-11 are doing a promo with TK this summer featuring die-casts. It's a start, let's build from here. Get kids interested, get it in front of them and build a fan base for the future. No kids don't have incomes, but kids have a very persuasive way of seperating parents from theirs!

I already ran out and bought my 2 12 packs of Dr. Pepper and got my free Tony Kanaan 7-11 renlight Die Cast !!!! And by the looks of things at the store where I was, a lot of others already had as well !!! The display box only had 5 cars left out of box that looked like it held 20 cars.

In the quote you added, it says that Altria spun off Kraft. I don't think there is a tie betwen the two any longer. If I remember correctly Altira no longer has a stake in Kraft at all.

Precisely how do you propose that can happen, when Citgo is a sponsor in the series and is now owned (stolen) by the Venezuelan government?

We are not the ones interjecting polotics into this.

Citgo is a subsidiary of a Venezuelan state-owned company. We can leave it at that. If we care to analyze each and every dealing that a company (state-owned or otherwise) is involved in, and whether or not their operation is ethical, this can be left for the Chit Chat forum. There is no shortage of interested people there. This forum should be about discussing all things IndyCar, and that's why I've been visiting this forum for years.

If Mercedes Benz were running in the 1939 Indy 500 I wouldn't have bought a Mercedes Benz back then either.

If CITGO didn't want to inject politics into the sport, they should stay out of it. It's a controversial company.

It all depends, it depends on the way it is discussed by the members and how much it pertains to the series.

Citgo after all is a sponsor of the series, and this thread is about supporting sponsors of the series, some members have been commenting on their support or in the case of Citgo their lack of support, they have been doing it in a civil manner, if they do it like that then I donīt see any trouble, who am I or any other moderator or member to tell them not to post their opinions towards an specific subject of an open thread, even if I or someone else finds the opinion or opinions not worthy of the forums.

If in the other hand, someone is talking about Milka and some poster starts saying we should boycott her and starts posting the things he dislikes about H. Chavez and starts telling us the atrocities of H. Chavez, then I would certainly close the thread.

P.S.: Yes it matters, it sounds a lot different saying "I donīt think this is the right place to...." and saying "Keep politics....", just like it would sound a lot of different telling someone, "I donīt think you are right......." and saying, "Are you dumb?, you are soooo wrong......."

I mostly do agree with you on that. But I think the moment that Chavez is brought in, it makes it a political and misguided post. Its like someone saying they don't support that wacko Bush, and should therefore boycott US Post. Its putting in some political commentary about something entirely irrelevant. Citgo, like US Post, or any Canadian Crown Corporation, operates at arms length of any government of the day. So IMO, bringing in one's personal feelings towards a political leader into a thread regarding sponsors to support seems somewhat irrelevant.

I hope the point to take away from all of this, is that as consumers, simply be aware of products you purchase, and don't be blinded by their support for the pasttime of your choice.

Sorry, I took "spun off" to mean that they made it its own entity to keep it out of the second hand smoke litigation. I stand corrected.

The rest of my post, I stand by, that in a car sponsored by anyone other than "marlboro", the marketing possibilities increase 10 fold. Don't get me wrong though, Philip Morris is huge for the ICS in all that they do, it's just that what they can do is limited, as well as who they can aim their marketing at. Hypothetically, could you imagine the possibilities of what could be done with Helio, in say an "Oreo Cookies" sponsored car?

That is 100% correct. The Indy Car series can not market to children because of the relationship with Philip Morris.

I think that WAS the reason to spin it off although Wall street didn't seem to enamoured with Kraft anyway. But now Altria has no consumer brands except tobacco ones. http://www.altria.com/about_altria/1_2_companiesandbrands.asp

The whole history is so convoluted. First it was RJ Reynolds buying Nabisco, then the spun off the tobacco business to become Nabisco Holdings. Then Phillip Morris (now Altria) bought Kraft, then latter Nabisco and merged them and now spun that conglomerate off. Whew, it makes the head spin.
