it´s probabilly that Rui Madeira(the 95´s group n world rally champion) runs on this rallye with a mitsubishi group n.
I think that this rallywill be very good with a lot of spectators, although I prefer the old stages of the north.

I understand your point of view! I also prefer to watch rallying on a "real" stage, but for the organisation of a rally it makes a lot of sense to make a Stadium Super Special!

For the example in the Vodafone Rali de Portugal, the SSS is completly payed by a sponsor! Otherwise, the sponsor wouldn´t give the money! So, it makes totally sense to make a SSS (in some cases)!

I know - but no longer in the official entry name. Last year the Stobart entry name was

"Stobart VK M-Sport Ford RT"

this year it's

JAM

Francisco Baros Leite uses a Seat Ibiza TDI that they call it as "Cupra". If the car on this rally will be the usual car, it has a 1.9 TDI engine.

In Portugal we have a Cupra with a petrol engine of 1.8VT and 180hp. They also have a Diesel engine with 1.9 with 160hp.

The car is on N4 class because the correction of turbo factor that it above 2000cc.

I assume the Munchis cars are there and ready to run so its a shame. I understand them pulling out seen as it is such a family centred team, but its a shame they couldn't throw some other drivers in the cars for a run. It probably isnt allowed anyway.

Yvan Postel's WRC results: http://www.rallybase.nl/index.php?type=profile&driverid=2674

He competed with a Dutch licence in that period. Maybe he had dual nationality French/Dutch, but he lived (lives?) in France and as far as I know didn't compete in The Netherlands.

Argentnians shouldn't have withdrawn the team... They could miss the rally as drivers, but it would have been very noble from their side to provide some talented drivers with the cars... For example, Wilks... I think it would be better for him to drive the 06 verion instead of 04...

François absent in Portugal (Monday 26, 15 H 48)
François will not be parity in Portugal, indeed the conditions not being optimal, the first team decided not to take part in this rally.
"I am disappointed not to take part in this new rally for the more-share of the pilots, but good the conditions not being very favorable, I did not even make a meter with Jean Francois, yet maintaining that leaves us time for preparing well Sardinia, that will make 6 months that I would not have rolled any more. I also am very disappointed for all the supporters which will make the displacement and which unfortunately will not see me into special."

Luis Perez Comoanc as Nº1 driver could not be changed.
Pablo Perez Companc accident was too bad, if you see footage from indy pro series (Homestead oval circuit) you will also remain frozen. Imagine he is your brother and you will undestand. (his car got air after touching a rival wheel, and hit the protection, not the wall, the car was destroyed, and the cokpit, part of it actually, was very luckily avoided by iother cars. He is very lucky to be alive, he lost 4 liters of blood, they are trying to save his right leg, and his life.)

I don't think there will be even a tenth of the people that were in Portugal in the past, this weekend

I think that Algarve will not have so many spectators as in the past when the rally was in the north of Portugal. The interest by WRC in Portugal simply desapeared in the last years, because the portuguese media ignored since 2001 that the sport as a World Rally Championship.

This year the things started to change a litle bit with the presence of Armindo Araujo on the PWRC. Mitsubishi Portugal has made a big effort near the portuguese media to promote the driver. Now the media are giving some (not so much as desired) attention to the rally of Portugal and people is starting to be interested.

The new format is different from the past, and the spectators will be able to see the rally on the spectator zones. I hope that this won't cause trouble, because i think these areas are small... but let's see. The organizers and police will be very strict to make spectators follow the orders.

Can anyone enlighten me on the Araujo&safety thing?

The car was landing in jump at on a left corner, the car slided after jump and touched in 5 persons that were injured. Two of them (two portuguese photographers) had the biggest injuries (one had a broken arm and the other a broken leg) and the other three spectators had really small injuries and were taken to the hospital as a precaution.

Armindo Araujo was really down with this accident... one of the photographers is a longtime friend of the driver that followed all his carrer. Let's hope he recover.

A lot of times the portuguese spectators were criticized by his behaviour, but the three spectators with small injuries were foreigners (2 spanish and one german i supose). Let's hope the rally start going well next 3 days, because WRC deserves a rally like Portugal and Portugal deserves a rally in WRC.

By the way, the shakedown had thousands of spectators and was not canceled, as the spectators were in safe places. This accident was really a unhappy thing...

sorry, but standing on the outside of a corner after a small jump is not exactly "safe"...even if 2 of them where photografers and the others where foreigners..
i dont think the safety problem is a problem of the portugise people, it is a marshall and safety crew problem it is not safe to stand in the outside of corners.
ok the photografers are alowed to stay there on theire own risk, but what about the other people??

How did Mikkelsen in SSS today? He was fast in the shakedown!

Marcus was amazing  2,3 faster than anyone else and 3,3 to Loeb. Wow.

Latvala was a bit overenthusiastic on the first corner, went off and lost nearly 10 sec's.

Hid did race side by side with Ostberg. Timewise, they both did almost the same, but Ostberg was more consistent and smooth. I guess Mikkelsen doesn't like tarmak.

Marcus and Sordo were clearly the two biggest non train drivers. Hello Vauhdin Maailma.

But let me say, Bernardo was amazing. I know it was only a SSS but the young driver from Madeira Island has showed talent.
Take a look in this short video from Madeira championship where you can see Bernardo showing his nice pace...

I must say then I was more dissapointet by Visitor Sa and Rui Madeira. Hope it`s going better today. They get all the weekend to overtake the scandinavians. Swedish Patrick Flodin and the Norwegian Eyvind Brynildsen.

He did learn that on a superspecial you cant win a rally, but its easy to loose one. I dont think thiskind of screw up will happen again.

Went off on first corner of the rally! He was stuck for maybe 8-10 sec's.

On the live broadcast it looked like there was a bit to much attack from hin the whole stage, even after the off.

From Rally-Live
"Meanwhile, Jari-Matti Latvala was a little over-eager in his Stobart Focus and ran wide at the start “It was really slippery and I can now say I have done the embarrassing moment of the rally – been off on the first stage…”

Good morning people, let's be ready to enjoy a nice with a few intersting battles and no more problems like yesterday.

After seeing the TV footage it was not the "old" Portugal problem, but a question of idiocy and bad luck.

Jari-Matti was well and truly attacking the stage after that first corner error. Luckily he didn't make any more mistakes, it was all very spectacular stuff.

I haven't seen the SSS live ... I'm curious to know too. Meanwhile the run or at the end ?
Maybe he repeated the trick performed in Motorshow 2006 ? Or a donut like in RAC 05 ? Or a "normal" people cheering (Greece 05) ... ^^

Galli wore a shirt with portugese flag in it(something to do with football I guess, no idea what though...) and stood on the roof of his Xsara while his co'driver drove it slowly around the circuit.

He doesn't need publicity. He's already well known everywhere. He does these things because ... he's like that. His own personality ... funny and enthusiast (maybe too much sometimes xD !).

He did this trick also in Motorshow 2006 over the yellow Pug 307 ... and I think he's been doing since years (we should ask Pino or some storic supporter for a confirm).

Galli and Petter Solberg received an entusiastic feedback from the public on the stadium, but Galli was really amazing. The portuguese spectators loved that and as a friend of mine said "Galli earned about 10.000.000 portuguese fans today because everybody will talk about the driver with the portuguese football tshirt!!"
