Do you suppose that Milka Duno is a Venezuelan agent sent by Hugo Chavez, specifically to destroy Indycar racing?

Just kidding, obviously, but can't she go back to Grand Am now?

Go Briscoe!

Briscoe just crashed out. Milka spun and took him out.

It's been quite good so far. The Champ Car boys are struggling a bit but that is to be expected - they seem to be reasonably well-behaved so far and staying out of trouble. Wilson's car looks like a bit of a handful though.

What was the first yellow for?

Dixon and hope everyone involved in the accidents are ok. See ya at St. Pete, Clearwater, Seminole, Tampa, Pinellas.....The Tampa Bay Area!!!!!

From NHLR:

McDONALD'S DRIVER WILSON FINISHED 15TH DESPITE RIGHT REAR FLAT IN HIS INDYCAR SERIES DEBUT AT THE SEASON-OPENING GAINSCO AUTO INSURANCE INDY 300

- McDonald's driver Justin Wilson drove to a 15th place finish in his IndyCar Series debut tonight in the Gainsco Indy 300 at Homestead-Miami Speedway despite an extra pit stop to replace a flat right rear tire due to contact with Will Power. Wilson qualified 17th but started 15th due to the disqualification of Ed Carpenter and A.J. Foyt IV's cars following qualifying. The command to start engines came at 8:13 p.m. ET and the race began with Wilson holding his position and temporarily ran as high as 14th before his first stop on Lap 20 during the first caution of the race for debris. On the restart he and Will Power came into contact when Power drifted down from the high line which resulted in a flat right rear tire on Wilson's car and left suspension damage on Power's who subsequently returned from the event due to the damage. Wilson limped around the race track and into the pits for the new tire and was three laps down by the time he returned to the track in 23rd place of 25 cars. He soldiered on through a total of seven pit stops and ended the race six laps down to the eventual race winner Scott Dixon.JOnly four cars were on the lead lap. He collected 15 points for his finish.

Following are Wilson's post race comments:

"I got caught out on the restart," said Wilson. "The opposite to what you normally expect happened. I had a good run and everyone opened up in the middle. In this form of racing you can race as soon as they shout 'Green.' It had been green for about four seconds and so I am going through the middle and they started to close down on me. I had a car on the left, I was in the middle and there was a car on the right. I was the meat in the sandwich. Will (Power) was on the right and I'm not sure why he was coming down as much as he was but it just got too tight. I don't know if he had somebody pushing him. I feel suckered into getting caught in the middle but its how this racing goes. I don't know what else was happening to cause the other guys to come low but that caused a puncture and we lost three laps. It was tough; I was hoping they were going to throw a yellow but they didn't even with bits falling off. We lost three laps with that and it was then pretty much a case of trying not to lose much else and hang on. The McDonald's car was working really well. I was very pleased that we were quicker than a lot of people. Everyone on the team has worked so hard the last four weeks. I'm very pleased we completed our first IndyCar Series race. I'm a lot more confident. I think our race pace is a lot better than our qualifying pace. I know we have a lot to do but this gave us something to build on for the future. We will go to Sebring on Tuesday to get an idea on how these cars feel on a road course then go to St. Petersburg and do something we are more familiar with. We should be further up in order. Not necessarily at the front but certainly further forward on the time sheets. Also the right mirror lens was pointing down at the sidepod so I couldn't see out of the right side the entire race. I saw it had been moved when I was on the formation lap."

In other news.

It appears Viso had a mechanical/tire issue causing his spin.

That may well be that case, but to be honest it doesn't remove the very real political taint of her funding. I will now don my asbestos underwear as the members of the "American Enterprise Institute" defend Citgo as just another corporation doing what corporations do.

Iīm not even from this country and I donīt buy Citgo gas, even tough it is always less expensive and I have one gas station one block from our home because I dislike Hugo Chavez, specially when he had that speech in New York in the U.N., and I dislike George W. even more, but you donīt go to another country and disrespect their president while being there. (And at least George W. didnīt try to change the laws to be president for life)

But not buying gas from them is a personal choice, everyone here has the choice to buy or not buy gas from them, to me Citgo is just another corporation doing what corporations do, as long as they donīt brake any rule in here they have the right to be here, regardless of any political views, they employ people here in the Houston area (and as a company are very respectful of protocol in here, I have drive next to their HQ here and they always have the US and Texas flags next to the Venezuelan flag) and are another option in the gas market.

They have a right to sponsor a car and choose whoever they want, I personally think Milka has no business to be driving an Indycar, and I will never, evr support a Citgo car, but is their money, not mine, that and the fact we donīt have many sponsors making lines to sponsor Indycars, the more the merrier, I will never buy their gas as long as Chavez is their president, but the more the merrier.

Well, the first race is in the books. Scott Dixon wins the Gainsco Auto Insurance Indy 300. He had a good weekend. Got the pole and the win.
It was a good race. Kanaan should of had the victory until he collided with Viso late in the race.http://www.worldracingforum.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

Marco had a strong car tonight as well. Wheldon was impressive. He came from 22nd and had the lead for awhile and finished 3rd. He is phenomenal on this track.

Darn Milka crashes out Ryan Briscoe. She needs to go!http://www.worldracingforum.com/images/smilies/mad.gif Ryan will have a strong year.

I think the former champcar drivers did good tonight as well. It was the first race on an oval for a lot of these guys.

Danica ran a good race. I was proud of her. I wanted her in Victory Lane but she did well. She finished 6th. Good job Danica!http://www.worldracingforum.com/images/smilies/extras/thumbsup.gif She will get em at St. Pete.

Evil corporations? Oh no!!! ;)

I guess Honda (CO2 Air Polluters), McDonalds (Fatty Foods), Marlboro (Cancer Sticks), 7-11 (Condom Sellers), Ethanol (Corn Murders) aren't angels either.

You can basically say the same thing about 99% of the sponsors in motorsport. Businesses aren't meant to be Angels. You either act like a shark or get eaten by the competition.

I know this is a bit off topic and will make this my last post on the subject, lest Starter step in. But I believe there is a very real difference in the companies mentioned above and Citgo, which is a state owned enterprise under control of the Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez. I am a card carrying liberal democrat, but even I see the need to not support this little megalomaniac.

But there lies the difference between you and the average Venezuelan still living in Venezuela, freedom to decide, donīt want to support them? donīt buy their gas (thatīs what I do, I donīt use their gas), but that decision should be taken by everyone, citgo in the IRL means one more car, sometimes it will be Milka, which means that extra car will not count in every race, but somemetimes it will be T. Bell, yes TB was the original Crashy Dan (err, I mean Speedy Dan), but he is a good racer when he doesnīt want to force things.

I donīt like McDonalds, I donīt eat their burgers, I find them without taste, but I have no problems with them sponsoring cars (I donīt see my favorite 2 burger joints sponsoring cars, Carls Jr and In and Out, more power to McDīs) or with people buying their burgers, this individual freedom thingy you have here I happen to like a lot.

What's wrong with Chavez anyway? It's not like he declared himself dictator for the rest of his life like Castro. They VOTED on it. Democratically. And he lost. Since when to dictatorships have legit democratic voting processes and admit defeat?

The reason he did it in the first place is because his supporters didn't think anyone else could do as good of a job as he has done and someone else taking office would ruin his progress. It's not like it was a pure power grab. Chavez isn't even a fraction of the megalomaniac we have in office here in the States.

I have nothing against Citgo. But I have everything against Milka. She sucks.

Actually I think Milka did better than on any race from last season, she was faster than Roth or Howard and even if she's more experienced on the car, Moraes and Bernoldi seemed totally hopeless out there(they did worse than Milka's first race IMO). But certainly the day she leaves the IRL, I'll be happy just for the fact that Chavez will be gone from one thing I like.

But her accident and Viso's one(BTW Viso is also sponsored by the Gorilla president) kinda proves that it takes one Venezuelan to do an stupid thing and other will just follow and do the same :p
