If you don't mind reading, this will give you a good overview of everything...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rallying

Wikipedia, also has links at the end of the read for some further investigations.

Once you can comprehend what rally is about, you will see it's a fantastic sport to follow! Everyone here is rally-mad!

Look forward to seeing you around on the forums.

Try scouring Youtube for some videos.

Some show what it used to be like in the earlier years (before everyone got 4 wheel drive)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IQ6lG1t0K44

Others are good for the Group B era (you'll learn about that in time)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3Mag3kA2J8

And then there is McRae (legend)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z56IiMo6Yq8

or local single venue stuff

I haven't watched any of these videos apart from the first one so don't have a clue if any of them are any good, just gives you an idea of where to start looking.

Try finding your local motor club and popping along for a meeting, there are likely to be rallying fans in amongst that lot.

This is a very good video. Neil Cole explains what is world rally. Has excellent footages and interesting narration typical of Cole.

i think sometime one need to just be patience and do some research, with the internet at hand there are so much resources.

i imagine if i go to a F1 forum and said: I NEED HELP, TEACH ME ABOUT F1, then I would probably get flamed by a lot of people.

Surely that won't happen here...

Don't forget to check the WRC links thread. :)

Hi bigdman,

Welcome to the sport :)

If you want some pictures of rally cars over the years, I have a great collection. I can mail you some of the following if you wish (Just send med a private message)

1.) All the WRC cars from 2002-2007 year by year and in the right championship positions.

2.) A full photo collection of the legendary Lancia rally cars from 1973-1993.

3.) A full photo collection of the Audi rally cars from 1980-1987.

All the collection will be mailed to you in pdf, so it's relatively small files.

Hi BIGDMAN

This forum would be a good point to interact and ask questions,

but as alot of others have suggested the net is a great place to start.

I use www.crash.net (http://www.crash.net) they have upto date info on Cars, Drivers, Co Drivers, and All the rallies. Lots of photo's too.

www.wrc.com (http://www.wrc.com) World rally championship official site
www.swrt.com (http://www.swrt.com) Subaru official site
www.bpfordwrc.com (http://www.bpfordwrc.com) Ford official site
www.pettersolberg.com (http://www.pettersolberg.com) Petter official site

I'm sure that is enough to start you off.

If you have a rally school near you go for a day. Its loads of fun.

Enjoy

Elvis

Get yourself to a rally and find out!!

I barely knew a thing about it, but i loved my first rally (rally australia 2004) and i've been hooked ever since!

Failing that, watch the WRC rounds on telly to see what's happening in the current season.. i dont know the channel or the time in your country..
