Opinion:

I think the main thing for our RFCCD's (Recently Former Champ Car Drivers) is to get experience and be safe and conservative. OVAL driving is deceptive and car setup. particularly dampers is extremely important. RC drivers in an uncomfortable setup will be amazed how thin the line between, it's good, it's good, it's in the wall is.

Certainly not the foot flat on the floor anyone can drive art some think it is.

I think our guys have aquitted themselves well under the condition and let;s hope they get some good race laps under their belts.

One thing that stood out for me was Bernoldi's pace relative to the other ex-CCWS team cars considering how late his deal came together and the fact he has never driven on an oval before - as far as I know anyway. I always thought he was underrated in F1 and his record in junior categories is better than the likes of Castroneves and Kanaan for example.

I'm surprised Newman-Haas weren't quicker (again relative to the ex-CCWS bunch) although they missed the first test and with everyone getting up to speed actual times probably don't mean much at this point, as you say it's probably just about getting experience and seat time...

Have to agree the CC boys did well,It should be a interesting season. Will be pulling hard for all the CC teams.I really hope Bruno and DC show well. Have tickets for long Beach and have mixed feeling, but will have a great time with that whole scene.

I wasn't going to LB because it's hard to get from SAE Conference week in Detroit to LB but ya know, might be worth the effort to be there, chat up the guys in the paddock.

So maybe I'll cya there :)

To be honest, I'm more worried about the drivers getting up to speed than the teams. With the exception of Bruno and Servia who were in CART, most of them have little to no experience on ovals.

I think they would've been a little faster last night if the weather was better. Even then, they were still slower than Team Roth for the most part.

Not bad for a having fully assembled cars for a week, huh?

We'll (CC Teams) will have a decent shot on the roadies, but we'll get our butts handed to us for awhile on the ovals.

I'll take this over the alternative of not being unified, any day of the week.

I'll see you guys at Long Beach.

Car scraps, and spare parts for former Champcar drivers. Plus, only five drivers from Champcar.

Sad......

Champcars fault for going bankrupt maybe? And a lot of the Champcar drivers aren't good enough to be in Indycar, with the exception of Paul Tracy whose missing out due to GF.

Oh please! I really have to stop drinking diet Coke at the keyboard while I read these threads. Not good enough to be in IndyCar? As compared to those all time greats like the racing dentist or Milka Duno or Ed Carpenter, etc. etc. etc. Please name a SINGLE CCWS driver from last season that wouldn't be a prime candidate to replace Ms. Duno.

You're having to stretch pretty far to find some duds.

The dentist raced over ten years ago.

Milka is hard to defend although it's fair to say she has more oval experience than much of the former CC field, many who have never had to race wheel to wheel at 200 MPH for 2 1/2 hours.

Ed is much better than you give him credit for. He'll outpace 90% of the former CC drivers this season.

Shall we formalize that into a friendly wager? I got a six pack of some good brew that says he won't outpace them. How should we measure the result? Best lap time in a race? Finish position in a race? Positions improved in a race?

d....just to clarify

are you suggesting that only 1 driver racing for a team that was in CC last season will finish above Ed in the final standings?

becuase from a gambling standpoint...and i like to gamble.....I'd get in on that action

Points position at the end of the season.

Ok, I'll take that wager. To reiterate, the bet is that Ed will score more points this season than 90% of the former CC drivers this season?

I could be SNEAKY  and leave it at that, so that points by Tony and Helio would count AGAINST Ed , but I won't. I'll make it: Ed will score more points this season than 90% of the 2007 CC drivers in the ICS this season? To make this fair, we should only include drivers who enter the same races as Ed. That way if he or any of the CC drivers should have to, god forbid, sit out a race or two, the tally won't work against them. Fair enough?

I am betting against this happening, downtowndeco is betting it will. Wager: a six pack of GOOD brew, no budwiser, busch, pabst or other such garbage.

Cheers.

So, it's game on then? :D

I can taste that Stoudt's Double IPA already.... And I was even nice enough to structure the wager so that the old guard Champ Car guys already in the ICS didn't count against Ed. <big ol' grin>

I'd take Will Power over Ed in just one race!

Most of the boys who are in Indycar have quite a few years in CART/Champcar, and ovals before taking the money and running to the other side.

Ed finished fifth. I'd better do a little friendly gloating while I can as Ed may not do as well next week.

It's a long season, my friend. And I will readily admit that you may get a few more occasions to gloat. But I still think I'll be enjoying that Stoudt's Double IPA come season end.

Hmmmm, me thinks someone doth owe me a six pack of some good brew.

From the link below it would appear that three former CC drivers, Oriol, Justin and Will out scored Ed. Those three certainly count as more than the requsite 90% in our little wager, no? <big ol' grin>

I received the following private message which downtowndeco agreed to let me share here:

Congratulations. My guy was doing OK until the last race. He was running 4th or 5th & then a part broke, he crashed & finished last. That's racing. : ).

If you have a paypal account I'll send you $10.00 or a crisp $10.00 bill if you provide your po box or address. Cheers!

To which I replied:

No need for that. Twas a friendly wager and as it remained such to the very end, I'll be satisfied with just the "bragin' rights". If you don't mind, I'll post your reply and this one to the thread and we'll call it even. Ok? I'll buy the six pack of Stoudts Double IPA and think of you as I drink it.

So, I get the "braggin' rights", such as they are in a bet like this. And downtowndeco and I have each done our little bit to tear down anther bit of the wall between the "two sides" in the old split.

I'm glad you didn't collect on that bet Gary. It says something about you.
