Conquest Racing have announced they have signed Brazilian Enrique Bernoldi to partner Frenchman Franck Perera during the 2008 IndyCar Series season.

The former Formula One driver will already test for his new team in tomorrow's first of two days of testing at the Sebring circuit.

"I am very happy to be joining Conquest Racing," said the Brazilian. "I think we have an interesting season ahead of us.

"At the beginning, we will have to learn a lot because it is a new car for the team and for me and especially to race on ovals which I never did, but it will be interesting.

"I'm very motivated and I think we will do a good job. Having Eric (Bachelart) here helps as well because as an ex-driver he understands more what the driver needs. It is a very positive relationship with him and everybody on the team.

"I look forward to testing the car this week, and even if it is a little late being one week away from the first race, everybody's target is to learn quickly and be competitive through the season."

The 29-year-old had signed a deal with the Rocketsports team for the 2008 Champ Car season, but the outfit look unlikely to make the switch to the new unified series.

"Enrique is a great addition to the Conquest Racing team and his vast experience in motor racing will be beneficial to us as we make the transition to the IndyCar Series," said Eric Bachelart, owner of Conquest Racing.

"We're delighted to have him join the team. He has adapted well and was competitive in all the forms of racing he has done and I am certain that he will be up to speed quickly, as will Franck, with the Dallara."

confirmation that Gentilozzi was talking out his arse when he said "my driver and his sponsor don't want to drive on ovals".

good for bernoldi and conquest, interesting to see how he gets on.

Translation: My team and I don't know $#!t about fielding an oval car and "my driver and sponsor" don't want to drive for ME on ovals.

It still suprises me how the switch doesn't seem to be such a big deal for the the less well funded operations, yet for the principals of CCWS, it is. I suppose a team accustomed to operating on a shoestring budget can do it anywhere. Obviously it's nothing more than sour grapes and residual resentment of TG keeping the others out.
