SMOKIN' THE SOUND FIRES UP THE RACING SEASON

Biloxi and the Mississippi Gulf Coast will once again offer the best in offshore racing and entertainment as the Offshore Super Series Powerboat Racing Association kicks off the 2008 season on April 4-6. The race production team headed by Woody Bailey has been working hard to bring this world class event back for race teams traveling from all over the country. The spectacular show will kick off Thursday, April 4 as Race Village gates open up to the public, and fans can talk to drivers, throttlemen and crew members who are "dialing in" their speed machines for Saturday's testing and Sunday's competitive races.

The ideal viewing areas are directly on the shore and along Casino Row, so spectators have never been closer to the action. The virtual "stadium" seating for "Smokin' The Sound" sets it apart from other race venues. Host casino-hotels, The Isle of Capri, The Palace, Beau Rivage, Hard Rock, and the IP will sponsor "meet the racer" parties and the final awards ceremony. This exceptional family event lets fans get close to some of the most expensive boats in the world racing at speeds over 100 miles per hour.

The event committee and OSS officials will be hosting forty automotive students from the Jackson County Technology Center to view the race boat engines and talk to the teams. Dignitaries from surrounding communities and the State Capital are planning on attending this memorable and exciting race.

Race producer Woody Bailey states "We are extremely excited about this year's event. Not only is our red carpet rolled out with boat loads of southern hospitality, but we have also tweaked our venue to the max!! The race course, the hot pits, race village, registration and driver meetings, and the helicopter landing zone are all together and adjacent to each other. This will be a super set up for the race teams and fans alike."

The hearts and souls of the offshore family have been with this event since the inaugural OSS race in 2004. Race teams were some of the first to jump in and help the Mississippi Gulf Coast area hit hardest by Hurricane Katrina. Racers not only love the Biloxi area but they invest back into the community and this year will boost the economy with several million tourism dollars.
