V8 Supercar driver Paul Morris will drive for Dale Jr's Nationwide team for a one off appearance later this year.

Morris lately has tried his hand in many different classes and this opportunity came up due to his friendship with Dale Jr.

Will be interesting to see how he goes.

I wish Dale Jr would have gotten chummy with a better driver than Paul Morris on his trip to Australia. He'll be in good equipment so hopefully he can get a test in and do a good job.

Interesting that DEI let him drive Jr's (HMS) Nationwide car.

As for Paul Morris... ye gads!

Actually Mark Martin's driving the 5 a few times this year(and actually won in it). Apparently the Jr/DEI thing really doesn't extend beyond Jr and Theresa.

Paul Morris? you serious? The same backmarker in v8supercar Paul Morris? The Same Paul Morris who gets beaten in the Aussie Racing Cars Series, a series for up and coming drivers?

Wow... so should i expect the same 'back of the field' finish for Paul in the states, the same finish he gets on any track in Australia? How exciting, i'll make sure that i'll miss it.

(yeah, i'm not a Paul Morris fan)

Round One: Paul Morris v Tony Stewart

Predicted outcome: Smoke by KO in the first round. :D

Solid mid pack driver, but nothing spectacular. 17th in drivers points, 59 car is 24th in owners points.

He's been struggling a bit this year and Kelly Bires has been beating him quite often. Hopefully he'll contend for the win at Mexico though.

There's 48 cars on the Mexico NW entry list. Only about 5 Cup regulars and about half dozen good road racers; Fernandez, Carpentier, Simo, Said, Pruett, Papis & Ambrose. I think he has a good shot at a top 3 spot.

Well luckily for him Temper Tantrum Gordon isn't competing so he won't get punted out of the lead again.

THAT IS A BIT ROUGH MATE , HE HAS HAD 2 DNF'S & 2 CC changes, HE IS CLIMBING HIS WAY UP THE DRIVER POINTS. kelly has been doing good , but has not had a dnf yet?

ambrose has been in front of bires more often at the end lately?

& why isn't there a thread on the mexico race , bloody poor show i would say seeing that there is no cup racing this week.

have a look were ambrose is in the 1st & 2nd practice at Mexico & see where kelly is in a pretty good spot , so ambrose is making him race better on a road course & helped kelly learn how to run the car at the vir test , bires has been distant with ambrose in the first 5 races , but now they are talking to each other & getting better results for it, they are a team & should have acted like one !

some arse kicking should have been going on in the garage?

kelly is talented but a bit distant as a team driver?

I like Marcos - I really do - and I hope he kiss collective butt in not only the road races but the Nationwide series as well, but I didn't realise that he was allowed to spin people out under caution. Okay okay, I know it was an 'accident'; that NA$CAR are 99% to blame and Robby shouldn't have reacted the way he did BUT Robby did offer Marcos his first Cup ride. :p

And yes, it was an accident and he would've won the race if Gordon had any control of himself.

Just a question for comparison to NASCAR. For the typical Aussie V-8 Supercar race, how many entries are there and what is the field size.

Cole_Trickle

32 I beleive, next year it will be reduced to 28 supposedly for 'better racing' stupidist decision evar, they should be making the grids larger.

But how many competitors show up for an event? How many get sent home due to not being able to qualify?

hey mate when i go to Sandown for the race , the drivers better drive more with the head rather than the carnage fest we have seen this year, some of the owners are getting a bit sick of fixing the damage.

Todd would have to be very lucky to get away from a blatant turn in on Wincup car, or was that arranged seeing that Wincup in the session had the fastest split times of any of the drivers, sure made it easier for Tander to take the wins?

steven Richards made the same mistake but did he turn in on the cars , that is what the TODDLER should have done, all he jad to do was stay on the line he had after making his blunder, & let Wincup thru?

I thought it was just brain flatulence on Kellys part. He was correcting from his mistake and Whincup was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

As said, they all do, it's franchise system, as Jeff Burton amongst others has suggested Nascar do to get rid of the top-35 rule. I don't agree, I think it's great anyone can rock up and try make the race.

You have to be qualified to race in V8s - a general drivers licence just won't cut it (although after Hamilton, you have to wonder). The Confederation of Australian Motorsport requires that you complete a licence lecture, observed licence test and medical examination before obtaining their Circuit Racing licence and then you (usually) have to work your way up through the different categories.

Go to http://www.cams.com.au/ if you want more of a look.

From the Annual 'What Would You Change' thread:

7. Everybody qualifies on time: that’s right, you heard me.

Just wondering why it's a big deal for NASCAR, when Aussie V8's qualify by just showing up for the event?

Aussie12
24th April 2008, 21:42
I didn't say I agreed with the V8 qualification system - why do you think I watch NASCAR? IMHO (and I'll get blasted for this) I think it's the stupidest qualification system in the world. It keeps changing and it's hard on the drivers and equipment. Good old dependable NASCAR: a couple of practices, a couple of hot laps alone on the track and you’re done. It's beautiful in it's simplicity.

I think he needs to win a race before the mainsteam media will notice.

He may be okay. With the recent drop in car counts, he won't have too many cars to outqualify.
