Those anti-cutting blocks absolutely making no sense. Once again proof that WRC is sinking deeper and deeper. Just remember the words of Ypres Rally manager Alain Penasse about those blocks:

“We have five. That’s five on the whole route. And they are only in the places where you are going to take a wheel off. We don’t want any more drivers talking to the stewards about trying to get to service without four wheels on the car. This is a rally, if you want to cut a corner, cut it. If you don’t want to cut a corner then go circuit racing.”

Some drivers have different testing rhythms.
For Neuville one pass is enough before changing settings. It was the same when I was at his test in 2020. If they change things like diffs or dampers, it takes time. And lunch could be in your time window.

But then again, this year, Hyundai’s Finland tests with Neuville and especially Tänak were slowed down by technical problems…

Hyundai is testing new chassis parts, which will be homologoted at the end of september and before New-Zealand. This is for a reason car beeing lof ot at the service tent.

Towards the end the car was competitive in Tänak and Neuvilles hands, when they were winning rallys they didn't complain to much. Clearly the development work payed off.

Whatever parts are allowed on a car can be tweaked as much as you like. But there are fewer such aero parts permitted now on the hybrid cars to save costs both in development and in repairs.

That's what happens when you give them limited room for development. The guy who used to design the diffuser will now be asked to design a more aerodynamic door handle or mirrors that create more downforce.

With the application of the new test regulations, the WRC teams did not carry out their usual preparation for Monte-Carlo. For the 91st edition, they all decided to ride only in January a few days before the event. M-Sport opened the ball by settling on a stretch of road not far from Veynes (05).



In front of many spectators, Pierre-Louis Loubet gave the real kick-off of the season. At the end of several round-trip series interspersed with passages under the tent where the mechanics were able to resume their habits around the Puma, the Frenchman gave his impression: "It's very pleasant to find yourself in the cabin of this car," he smiled. It was not long ago that I played my last event since we participated in the Dévoluy Winter in the region in December, but it was on a Rally2. There, it's quite another thing! This Rally1 really pulls! If the young Corsican knew what to expect after having already raced 7 rallies in 2022, it was all new for Nicolas Gilsoul. "I think I will talk to Pierre-Louis so that we can review his notes. With the boost, the distances between turns have been further shortened... I'm not going to have time to say everything, it was half joking. It surprised me. What is it growing! On a road where humidity came out and ended up getting dirty over the passages, the Franco-Belgian crew was able to carry out the planned program deploying the same satisfaction with each return to the base, Gilsoul still pointing to a perfectible installation: "I am higher than Pierre-Louis," he said. We need to see what we can improve."

While it showed erratic reliability during the tests last year, this time the Puma was stronger. Two slight alarms immobilized her for a few minutes, but nothing serious. It was during one of them that Ott Tänak and Martin Järveoja arrived on tiptoe. Small smile with a nod with well-known faces, a few taps in the hands of mechanics he worked with before and the Estonian immediately began a discussion with the two Reiger technicians who were present. The half-day assigned to Pierre-Louis Loubet ended in the same good atmosphere. The mechanics then made usual changes and checks. The battery was recharged, four new Pirelli tires were installed and Ott Tänak made his very first laps with the Ford. Having a great need to take its mark with the Puma, the Estonian multiplied the long runs, asking for changes until the 18-hour curfew falls. With him, it was difficult to decipher what he thought of those few hours, but the base did not seem bad. He will have another opportunity to improve his adaptation when he runs again with the Ford on Monday. In the meantime, Pierre-Louis Loubet and Nicolas Gilsoul will have all day on Sunday to further perfect their smiles.

Yesterday, M-Sport carried out a day of testing with its starting driver pair, Ott Tänak, accompanied by his regular Martin Jarveoja, and Pierre-Louis Loubet accompanied by the experienced Nicolas Gilsoul at the wheel of the impressive Ford Puma Rally1.

During the day, Tänak and Loubet had the opportunity to test drive the car in different road conditions and get a feel for how the Puma Rally1 behaves. Both parties were very satisfied with the performance of the car and were enthusiastic about the performance and room for improvement.

In short, M-Sport's day of testing with Tänak and Loubet at Ford Puma Rally1 was a success and demonstrated the potential of this impressive car. We are sure that we will see much more of the Puma Rally1 in the future and we are excited to see what this car is capable of in the 2023 season that is about to start.

Puma seems like a glove at Tanaks arms.Impressed from videos,specially from this one.Car in bad tarmac seems excellent,and we can see that Tanak can push a lot.That one,you cant do with a car you cant trust.

Often on Monte test the cars look bad or weird, a lot of it is they are testing all the tyre options so don’t have the maximum amount of grip.
I think some of the videos it looks like he has the studded tyre on.

Watching all the Tänak vids then I can agree with one thing what’s been said here - the boy definitely doesn’t seem to lack any confidence with the machine. But testing is testing

Just wanted to say the same. Would really like to hear it from him about how it feels compared to Hyundai but it really feels that he now has confidence to push and the car behaves like it should. Past years it felt that there is some hesitation on Tarmac but now it feels more like "old days". Sorry for the Estonian sunglasses I'm wearing but I'm happy :)

We know the Ford was/is winning material in the right hands.
It was the best car "out of the box" last year, but the number 1 and 2 drivers was not good enough to utilize the Puma.

And if you're asking "why would he do that", it's good to test something that is likely to happen in Monte, you will use snow tires on dry tarmac when some part of the leg is snowy and some part is dry.

I got a message from Bluuford and he explained it well that there was a very small layer of ice on the roads, his measurements were sometimes even at 0,1 mm, so this and snow tires explains that bit.

And I agree with this hesitation part, this has gone from the vids we have been provided. My expectation are still not that high for Monte but it sure is very exciting times now.

Crazy good impression from Ogier's test. While the road is much more cleaner and the tyre selection could be all too different as well it is still mighty impressive how glued to the road this car is with no extra drama and so efficient.
