Was driving hard to see how good/bad the wear rate is and try guage their longevity while driving like that :)

Not sure if they will cause more sliding but its nice to see Andreucci fling a WRC car around like that, a nice change from the norm.

wow, that much snow around there?!! I thought the recent mild weather would have melted most of it away, that's a good sign!

Leno:
Petter Solberg is back in Värmland, now testing before the Swedish rally 2008.
His first run didn't start well, the brakes were not adjusted properly which meant that they got stuck in a snow bank. By lunch they had completed 100 km of testing, using up three sets of tyres. Petter only gets one day of testing in Sweden since Subaru want to put their main efforts on the new car. Before the car is homologated you can test the car how much you want (restrictions don't apply).
Petter says the car they use in Sweden will not be able to fight at the top. The new car will not be available until Greece at the earliest. Last year in Sweden he had to drive faster than the car could handle, which is why he ended up in the ditch.

The sound is better, but now Subaru has definately lost its distinctive sound. The sound is nice but now it sounds like an C4 or Focus.
Looks promising though.

Definitively C4 and Focus sounds are TOTALLY different ! The Fords were like Gr.N cars, we couldn't hear them (sometimes we didn't even realize they were already in sight), while C4 sound is so brutal compared to the other WRC cars... only the little Honda of the italian Betti had an higher sound trust me !

no vent on the bonnet !! strange.....

Rally Hokkaido
1st March 2008, 03:51
I was told that homologation of S14 WRCar would be based on non-WRX car, therefore no intercooler scoop on bonnet. Of course, this scoop was never used for intercooler vent in older Impreza WRCars, anyway.

That's the airfilter, on roadcars the scoop in bonnet is used for the intercooler. The wrc has front-mounted intercooler.

Well at least he has a cool paid job, and hes not sitting around like others... In any case he has loads more experience in the focus than other people and he could be called to drive in case something happens (like Clark did) although now that I think about it, wouldn't Kresta be like the logical choice instead of Clark in Jordan? So its not just me that thought that. It may be deceptive, but it looks as though its a good 10=15km slower through corners than what Loab's C4 would be traveling at.
Having said that, it does seem very smooth in turn-in and not twitchy under braking. Perhaps this footage is more a warmup or somthing.

I agree, too. The car looks very slow especially at the middle to exit of corners. It just doesn't seem to accelerate that much.... On the other hand, the car looks extremely stable under braking when entering corner. Anyways, still lots of work to do for Subaru.

at rallies only you can measure the speed vs other cars in same conditions.

I wouldn't call second place the first time out slow! I remenber seeing footage of Citroen testing to replace the Xsara back in 2003. That's 4 years to testing for Citroen vs. a year for Subaru? Peugeot's first year with the 307 was a disaster (not to be bashing Peugeot I love the 307). Can't really comment on Ford since they've been running remakes of the same car for the better part of a decade, not that they even need a new car right now ether.

You can't really tell how fast the car is from the final standing, and I wouldn't call Subaru was fast in Acropolis. The gap between Loeb and Petter was fairly big, and Petter wouldn't be able to finish 2nd place if not for Ford's troubles. Beside it's hard to tell the car is really fast or not in Acropolis or Turkey. The only conclusion I draw from Acropolis is that Petter took care of the car well.

The real test to see whether the new Subaru is really fast will be Finland.

I didn't say Petter cheated to finish in 2nd place. He drove smartly and deserves 2nd place without any questions.

As DonJippo already pointed out, my point was new Subaru never showed any indication of speed to match Citroen or Ford. Just like you said, everybody is fighting for a win. Then why didn't Subaru win any stage in leg one? Both Subaru even had better road position than Loeb or Mikko on the leg one.

If all Citroen and Ford retire, I wouldn't say Subaru was the fastest just because Subaru finished first.

To many factors are at play to just look at a clock, Rally isn't drag racing. The bigest factor for Petter having such a big time difference with Lobe in Greece was once Lobe was 20 seconds ahead there was no way of catching hem. Then all Petter had to do was defend second. He could have pushed to the end in hopes of Lobe making a mistake but the chances of that happening verses damaging his own car is to high in Greece.

I just came back from checking out some testing for 1000 Lakes, first Munchies Ford test, i think it was Companc driving, nothing much to say about that one except it was good we vent to that one first, else it would have looked quite slow, the other test was Citroens and Loeb was driving, the speed was offcourse good aswell as the car. Citroen has now changed their policy, they dont let people go to the service anymore.

They must have something to hide if they dont let people into the service anymore!!!!!!

There will be a new homologation on the existing car due for Germany. Will consist of minor engine changes and not much more.

I would have thought the Ford marketing men would have wanted the new front off the road Focus on the rally car too......

Einstein.. They just dont want any other teams copying any of their ideas.

I dont know why that is like that now (propably the woman engineers idea, also any picture taking for the press is phrobidden if they work on the car), else they acted a bit strange too, they changed suddenly the test stage in the middle of the day too, Loeb said the first stage was too narrow, he had some close calls there.

Offcourse all teams try to hide something, but I think this has more to do with that they want to work undisturbed, i understood that the day before there was quite many people there watching.
The written orders that citroen did send from the headquarters was even more stricth, for instance they wanted the plate numbers of those who use the road while there is a test going on, paranoia i would say, but offcourse the guys who closed the road did not collect them.

Afraid of spying? It look likes Citroen want to do everything to win this event this time.
I don't say it is impossible. It is Loeb behind the steering wheel :\

Lol, I dont see what use there would be for some team to spy on some other, they use different cars, also they dont know a thing about the times on the test, propably just someone at the headquarter has lost the contact to reality.

Uh ? You serious ? Spying opponents 'solutions' has always been a "must" in motorsports !
Do you remember also Ford hiding their brand new car in Australia 2005 under a tent ? But when a mechanical problem happened and one of the cars stopped in the middle of the road, a lot of Citroen guys were seeing everything they could because the bonnet was open !

well the citroen is hardly a new car anymore, also all drives with same tyres, no surprises really, also if citroen find something new in setups , it propably wont help ford and the other way around.

What a load of BS...spying will always be important. Lots of new stuff have been taken from competitors since motorsport started and it will never stop. Aren't you being just a bit naive?

Surely spying would be a great help when cars are using car specific homogolated parts which you can renew only once a year and custom designed only for your use dampers/suspension parts ... IMO due to homogolation restrictions "spying" in rallying is less important than i other forms of motorsport.

I've been there couple of times, usually hasn't been any secrets, true. But if they chose to act like this, then i'm more than sure that it has some good reasons (which we cannot predict) for it.

There is, on first testday too many people at the test wanting interviews, press etc., also they unexpected changed teststage in the middle of the second day, Loeb lost about 2-3 hours test time.

When will the facelifted focus come into play?

In Germany.

Wilson:"In Germany we'll launch an evolution of the car which will be fitted with a lot of new parts we've been testing over the summer. Most of the changes are related to engine and transmission parts, but we've also been concentrating on making improvements to the weight distribution and centre of gravity."

Finnish sports program. It takes forever to load, when it does you'll have to skip to 4:10 into the program. Nothing very interesting really, if you don't speak finnish (interview), just a small clip with JML a little to sideways and just into the ditch. Not worth the effort to see it...
