What's everyone (who has a mum and lives where they celebrate Mothers' Day) buying Mum this year?

Each March I make an effort to sell loads of homemade planted-up stone troughs for presents, and as a result earn myself an MD gift from my dogs. It's childish I know, but what the hell - I deserve it! :p :

Thing is, I don't want anything special this year ..... so am looking for ideas here. My partner has about twenty quid to spend on something my dogs would have bought me, if only they could reach the shop counters and get served. Not flowers though, as the flower man at market always palms a dozen bunches off on me at the end of the day anyhow :p :

Honestly........

Nothing.

But thats because i am a very poor student, so can't afford anything :p : I decided to do the house chores and cook dinner instead, and stop mum from doing anything that consists work tomorrow (or today)

I love you Mum :p :

Mine isn't really that bothered about certainly gifts on Mothers Day; really she isn't.

She doesn't want me to get her loads and loads of stuff. She doesn't eat chocolate that much, and she is up to her neck in jewellery and novels. But she does like smellies like bubble bath and shower gel so I got her some of that. She is though into collecting glass fish for the bathroom window ledge, so when we went to an antique and collectors fair at Gateshead stadium I found two nice pieces of antique glass in the shape of fish that she loves.

So if your looking for ideas Haz, get her something she is into. An interest or hobby. One of the best things I got for Xmas was a book called simply "Touring Cars" which was only a few quid from a charity shop because am into the BTCC and it's past, and I would be happy recieving for my birthday a £5 plant from a garden centre that I am able to turn into a Bonsai because that is what I am into.

I got my Mum some tuplips. she was vertical happy with them despite them not being the yellow roses she was admiring on Valentines day. I did not get a card I do not see the point in them.

vertical happy? Were you using a phone to write that Mark or is it some northern term I don't know about?

I ordered my mum a huge boquet of flowers from Next which she really liked. I did feel slightly guilty about getting them delivered on Saturday instead of today as I was too tight to pay the extra three quid for delivery.

I think me and my brother will also take her out for a meal sometime in the week. :)

In the UK it was yesterday. In the US it's some time during the summer.

Depends where you are, here in Australia it is early May, I think, but don't quote me! :)

I got my mum a Japanese Calligraphy set and we cooked her a slap up meal of beef in red wine sauce, with homemade white chocolate cheesecake with raspberries for dessert. :)

Another commercial "con the people out of their hard earned money day" :(

You might feel like that but I think my Mum deserves a whole day to recognise the work she does.

For once I feel I can disagree with a post.

Unlike Valentines day I feel it isn't anywhere near as commerical and certainly as absorbed by society as Valentines Day. And for all Valentines Day is commercial, unlike Valentines Day theirs a far more legitimate and important reason for celebrating the day than that which surrounds Valentines Day. So even where it is commercial theirs a darn good reason for it.

Plus, unlike Valentines Day it doesn't margianalise people. Everyone, except obviously those who no longer have their mum with them, should be able to celebrate it.

It is such a blessed relief after being excluded from enjoying Valentines Day.

There's occasion overload, at least for myself, we've had
25th Dec: Christmas
28th Dec: Karen's Birthday
31st Dec: New Years Eve
3rd Feb: My birthday
14th Feb: Valentines Day
2nd Mar: Mothers Day
Then in 3 weeks we have Easter, then a couple of weeks after that our Anniversary.

Busy busy :p

Anybody celebrating March 8 - Woman's International Day ?
For us that's the day when mums are at high price. Women in general have a day off, they throw parties at restaurants, get presents and flowers from men ( not only family but also friends or work colleagues ), attend men striptease shows, etc.

Point taken. But I also love my dog. Should we have a dogs day? I also love my parrot. Should we have a parrots day? I also love my sister ( keep it clean people :p : ). Should we have a sisters day?

What I mean is we should not have to have a special day for the people we love. Every day should be special. You dont need a commercialised day to show it :)

That's the typical question of bosses who are obliged to let women home. Unfortunately this year it's on Saturday.
In my opinion men's day is in the other 364/365 days.

When is men's day? :p :

If you want to get all technical, as you boys do, there are three days for you lot.

March 17th is the most popular (St Patricks Guinness Day), then St George's Day and finally Fathers' Day.

So nahnahnahnah :D

I got a promise of another wooden treestump carved mushroom in the end. My partner makes them with a chainsaw and they're really, really tricky to get just right. Plus there's always the chance he'll lop a leg off whilst whittling and I can finally claim on that life insurance ....

Haha Romanian men must live easier than I do!

Hazell, how are St George's day and St Paddy's day male days? I doubt the Scots and the Welsh agree :p :

Fortunetely I'm not a Father either :p :

The Scots and Welsh get to drink Guinness or bitter on those days ... they pretty soon forget their own birthdays, never mind the Day day :p :

Who knows? Maybe you're right... At least when it comes to party.
Anyway they are in the Champions League if you take by their schedule.
Just think of celebrating ALL the Premiere League saints [ Basil, John, Nicholas, Constantine, George, Peter, Paul. Mary ( 2 times! Big Mary and Little Mary) , Helen, Ann, Dimitri, Parascheva, etc. ] + lots of Second Division ones + lots of christian holidays + 1 May+ work colleagues birthdays + etc.etc.etc..

The cherry on the cake is the 3 days off we'll take for the NATO summit in Bucharest.

And don't imagine that women stay home with arms crossed and waiting for them. They just join them.
