Taken from WRC.com season intro of JWRC

The cars
The FIA Junior World Rally Championship is the world's premier motorsport category for B-Segment cars - the category often described as the 'hot hatchbacks'. All cars in the J-WRC are front wheel drive and have a total length of 3600 - 4150 mm.
Eligible cars must be homologated in one of four technical classes defined by the FIA:
1 - Super 1600 (engine capacity less than 1600cc)
2 - Group N cars (engine capacity of less than 2000cc)
3 - Selected Group A cars (engine capacity of less than 2000cc)
4 - Group R cars

2006 was the first time that cars from Group A and Group N were eligible for the FIA J-WRC. Although it can be expected that Super 1600 cars will battle for overall glory, Group A and N cars are the only cars eligible for the Rookie Award.

Anyone that know what cars have been selected for point 3: Selected Gr A cars ?

How quick do you expect Ogier to be, compared to people like Tirabassi and Bonato?

"3rd on Shakedown!
The feeling in the car during shakedown was really good. We found a good speed and the few seconds up to the top is nothing we are thinking about. The most important thing is that the feeling in car is good!

Now we are looking forward until tomorrow and for sure we're aiming for 1st position from the beginning!"

The Renault Clio was the reference(the best one at the time Jean-Joseph, Tirabassi and Robert drove it), but it looks like the Citroën C2 has done enough progress to catch the Clio by now

Wim_Impreza
2nd March 2008, 07:33
Don't forget that the Clio is an older car than the C2.

Mirek
2nd March 2008, 11:13
Yes, it is older, but it was still developed during it's life. Both cars are reported to have very strong engine (C2 with much more torque than Swift for example). C2 is the smallest and widest car which is great for tarmac in my opinion. In my oppinion C2 is clearly better on tarmac but I'm not sure about gravel. Clio is without doubts very reliable.

By the way, Martin Prokop reported that he had two crankshaft sensor failures and no power steering with a small fire during the rally so far. Of course plus that roll on the first stage (and broken windows after that).

Sulland

I am just guessing here, but I have read that the new phase (Mk) 3 Clio will never come in a S1600 config, but in a R3 Turbo version.

Anyone with more info on this one ?

Mirek

What is R3 Turbo?

Sulland
2nd March 2008, 13:27
I have loaned this from the forum here: http://www.rallye-info.com/forum.asp?sid=0&boardid=1&action=thread&threadid=6789&new=14&page=1

"In France and Spain there is there is from 2008 a class called R3T, which is R3 turbo cars, costing very little, but obviously only having 2WD. Seeing some of the R3 cars I wouldn't be surprised if these low budget R3T's would beat S2000 cars sometimes at least on asphalt."

I have googled it but can not find anything on it - does anyone else know of this class in the two countries ?

Sulland
2nd March 2008, 13:45
Edit: Found it : look here under 4.1 B and C - http://www.ffsa.org/telctdc.php?id=1294&cat=docffsa

Do not know more, like specs and so on !

Sounds interesting. It looks like they want to use the most common hot hatches. The large majority of those cars use turbos. It is particullarly logical since more strict emission standards leads to large using of turbos in road cars. I have nothing against. It would be good to have a chance to use all those hot hatches and some biger cars as well on stages. There are a looot of them:

Opel Astra OPC
Opel Corsa OPC
Peugeot 207 RC
VW Golf GTI
Mazda 3 MPS
Seat Leon Cupra
etc.

I'm interested in the regulations. I think that those cars should be strictly gr.N without big modiffications so as not to be too fast and too expensive.

The german Internet-Site of 1aSport.de had an Interview with Aaron Burkart, here are some extracts:

question: last week the jwrc startet in its season. what was the spirit like?

burkart: the spirit was simply great! i have never given that much autographs before. but it also gave me great pleasure to see that many people with the same enthusiasm for this sport as myself.

question: at the end you achieved fourth place. are you satisfied with the result?

keeping in mind that we have did not know the route and first time suffered low engine power because of the high altitude the result was all right. nevertheless the fourth place is always ungrateful, but this year there are more rallies where we focus on podium places.

2009 should be the last year of JWRC. To retain credibility JWRC should use cheaper cars, e.g Fiesta ST or Citroen C2R2, it should be an entry level ckass and allow PCWRC to be 1 step below (feeder class) and then the top class.
