Jeff Gordon's suspension failure

Can anyone enlighten me as to the specific issue with Jeff's car?

During his interview he seemed to suggest it was a fundamental problem with the car.

Is it a geometry issue at the restrictor plate tracks? If so, how come no-one else had a failure?

Hendrick MotorSports is tight-lipped about exactly what the 24's "suspension failure" was.
I suspect that a weld broke in the chassis & that a repair couldn't be performed at the track.
Jeff Gordon would never have parked the 24 IF it had been at all possible for him to continue.
Somebody at the Hendrick MotorSports fab shop dropped the ball on this one IMO.
The "Drive for 5" has taken a hit but don't count Jeff Gordon after only 1 race. http://www.motorsportforum.com/forums/images/icons/tongue-anim.gif

He mentioned that they had experienced the problem during testing, but couldn't find a complete solution. Maybe something to do with the bump-stops Nascar is mandiating and not allowing enough travel in the suspension in the highbank corners? Hard do say.

It had something to do with too much force bending some mounting point. The cars are going through the corners riding on the shock bumpstops which means there is little to no damping, so all the force gets directed to the suspension mounting points.
