Hi all,

I read a previous thread on this forum regarding roll cage design with interest (found here:http://www.motorsportforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=123072). I am performing a similar FE analysis on a roll cage (for a E36 BMW coupe) and was wondering what exactly is the failure mechanism for a roll cage? Is it a maximum allowable stress, or maximum displacement? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers.

I think both. Displacement changes also stress because it cause additional moments and makes the tension worse. For longer rods the buckling effort is major in my opinion.
