Hey everybody,
I've a got a few more basic questions about Le Mans Series.

Why are some LMP1 cars like Audi open cockpit and some closed like Peugeot. Le Mans 07 it looked like it rained so hard that any open cockpit car would start to accumulate water inside. Meanwhile the Peugeot is even equipped with windshield wipers.

Who are the top drivers set for Le Mans 2008 and what series do they drive in mostly?

In a race that relies so heavily on reliability and prototype models , how much effect can a superior team of drivers have on a win at Le Mans?

Thanks in advance, everybody has been very helpful.

the audi and all other open LMP cars do have drain systems so they don't get flooded.

and the favorite will most likely be again Audi, with Mcnish/Kristensen/Capello. as they were ahead confortably the last 2 season

There are two sets of rules, one for open cockpit cars and one for coupes. Over the next few years, the open cockpit cars will be phased out.

Typically they are in the European LeMans Series

In a 24 hour multiclass race, it is the driver's job to be consistently quick without damaging the car, and while getting through traffic without delay or incident. It's different than the skills needed for a Formula 1 race, but still very demanding.

Wow, very interesting that they are phasing out the open cockpit cars. Especially considering that an open cockpit car has won for the last 4 years in a row.

Very good answers here, thank you.

Right now, 2009 is scheduled to be the last year for open cockpit P1 cars. I don't believe there are plans to require P2 cars to be coupes.
